Your Ultimate Bridal Style & Colour Guide

We’ve got an article today from Elle Katanka from Adorn Wedding Invitations on bridal style. Take it away, Elle!

Our senior creative team have been working alongside the top wedding stylists to produce the ultimate bridal styling and colour palettes for 2018.

We’ve looked at everything from rising global colour trends, textures, décor and themes. We even tapped into our favorite real weddings from our own brides and photography partners to extract images and information for creating the perfect wedding for every colour theme – one for each season.

Let’s start with Autumn.

Autumn

Invite your guests to your exclusive wedding celebration with the finest quality card that is rich in texture and design. A golden gate opening up to reveal a marsala, purple or blue card paired with Gold lined envelopes will be a true sight for the eyes. Don’t forget to finish it off with Adorn’s signature gold foiling for that extra touch of luxe.

With such a rich and mesmerizing colour palette, it is only fitting that you plan a wedding that exudes nothing but sheer extravagance and elegance. Breathe that air of indulgence, royalty and opulence into your wedding celebration with themes such as Moroccan Luxury or Parisian Glamour.

Dress the tables with deep red linen and decorate it with gold seating, vases and tableware. With hosting an Autumn wedding comes great responsibility in creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere so be sure to have a high-rise candle arrangement on each table for that seductive glow and much-appreciated feel of romance.

Dessert time! Think of a rich chocolate ganache or mousse cake covered with fresh fruits or a white cake with an ombre Marsala-toned cake topped with seasonal blooms. Gift your guests with a wedding favor that they will actually do something with! In this case, treat them with red velvet flavored macarons complimented with gold foiling.

For the floral table arrangement, fill the space with trails of moody, full-bloom flowers and prominent ferns and branches. Flowers rich in oxblood and merlot reds and arrangements dripping with fruit will add that sense of opulence. Pure white orchids are an absolute must and you can even have them hung from the ceiling.

Dress yourself in an overly embellished lace gown paired with adorable white blooms threaded throughout your hair and a bold cherry colored lip. Have your bridesmaids in marsala gowns and bring in the jeweled tones with blue gem earrings or maroon heels. For the fellas, have them in a clean maroon suit with black ties.

Winter

Dare to be bold with designs reminiscent of the 1920s and that which breath an air of Old World charm. Choose an invite with thick black paper with the calligraphy and design printed in gold foiling for that much-loved glistened finish. The luxe look will be a treat for the eyes and promises to announce your marriage with true style.

For a theme think Old Hollywood Glam, Great Gatsby, Vintage Romance, Classic and Minimal Elegance or Winter Wonderland! You are well and truly spoilt for choice here. With such a beautifully bold colour palette, the unification of such colours effortlessly breathe an air of luxury and lavishness.

For a truly magical effect, have blooms, chandeliers and floating candles draping from above. For the entrance, think of an archway of white or gold painted branches or trees. Decorate the tables with black chairs with a bow tie, geometric vases, gold tableware, black champagne glasses and vintage crystal glassware.

Spoil your guests with a gold frosted or foiled cake filled with your favourite flavor or if you really want to stand out and make a statement, go with a black tiered cake topped with pure white roses. A lovely idea for this season is to treat your guests with complimentary hot chocolates upon arrival and a Make-Your-Own smore station.

Fill the room with seasonal daphnes, double tulips, hyacinth and sweet peas. Have pure white blooms and orchids for the table arrangement or draping from an overhead arrangement. The white blooms will contrast well against the black and gold décor and will serve to balance out the darker tones.

For the bride, go with a detailed, long-sleeve white lace gown and dress the bridesmaids in stunning black gowns. Go with Hollywood waves, a prominent winged liner look and a red lip. For the groom and groomsmen, a clean cut black suit with a gold tie.

Spring

When picking your wedding invitations, think of something with floral designs or light and lovely colour combinations. Think lush patterns, floral laser cut cards, blushing water colored invitations with a touch of rose gold foiling if you want that extra touch of luxe.

With such a whimsical and wonderful colour palette, you want to accentuate the soft hues with natural lighting so take advantage of your Spring wedding and host it outdoors. We think a perfect idea would be an outdoor garden gathering or a winery wedding with a Rustic or Boho theme.

Make the most of the seasonal blooms and incorporate them as much as you can. Entertain your guests with a wedding swing decorated in pink blooms, blue ribbon and bursting green twine leaves. Surround the area with a flower arch, wreathes, garland, hanging tree ornaments, lush flower arrangements, loose petals and fairy lights.

Let’s talk desserts! For your cake, consider the trending naked or ombre cake OR if you really want to impress your guests’ – incorporate both ideas into one! We recommend providing a cute drink station in this weather to keep your guests well hydrated- we’re talking water, lemonade and iced tea.

Drape the tables with baby blue or classic white linen and decorate it with blooming pink and white flowers coupled with contrasting green leaves, clear glasses, copper candleholders and vases, timber place cards and dainty and romantic treasures such as silver trinket boxes.

We recommend a strapless, sweetheart gown for the bride with a tulle finish which will look breathtaking when paired with diamond drop earrings. Have the bridesmaids in baby-blue one shoulder or blush gowns and have the groom and groomsmen in tailored blue suits with a lovely pink bow tie and rose pinned to the pocket.

Summer

When announcing your Summertime wedding, consider a simplistic yet stylish wedding invitation – a crisp white card with rose gold foiling or get detailed and decorative with a floral laser cut and embossed design. To finish up the look and to add a complimenting touch of colour, tie it all together with blush envelopes.

Summertime is the perfect time to plan a rooftop wedding, unless you would choose to have your guests in a stunning, not to mention well-conditioned, function room by the river. In terms of pinpointing a theme, you can go with a Garden-Party Soiree, Floral Wonderland, Classic Elegance or High Tea.

Cover the white table cloths with fresh fruit and eye-pleasing cheese platters, pot plants delicately bursting from geometric copper vases, crystal clear glassware, arrangements of green blooms, rose gold tableware and finish it off with plush white or copper wired chairs!

This is the season to bring out the rose-filled flower wall and don’t tell me you don’t want to! Go with the trending wedding love letter signs and decorate the edges with darling roses. Make use of lush greenery and succulents and twined leaves paired with in-season pure white and light green flowers like orchids, peonies and hydrangeas.

When it comes to your cake, it’s up to you if you would like to continue with that natural feel and go for a clean cut white cake and drape it with cascading sugar flowers or of course, real life blooms OR if you want to go with a rose gold foiled cake to really impress your guests.

For your gown, go sheer, light and dainty with the fabric as you don’t want to work up a sweat on this magical day of yours. Think of a lacy backless gown and dress your bridesmaids in nude or blush gowns. For the groom and groomsmen, opt for a cream or grey suit rather than a confronting traditional black tuxedo.
