English actor Toby Jones and his wife, Karen Jones, a criminal defense lawyer, married in 2015 after being a couple for 25 years. The couple share two daughters who think their dad isn’t showbiz enough.

Jones has been a feature in the film and television industries for many years, appearing in hit movies like “The Hunger Games” and fan-favorite shows like “Sherlock.” The actor enjoyed great success on screen and had a stable life.

Although much of their relationship timeline is not known in the public sphere, Toby and Karen have been together for over three decades, but less than ten years as a married couple. The family mostly keeps their private lives out of the public eye.

Toby Jones married Karen Jones after 25 years together

Toby and Karen tied the knot in 2015, in an occasion that also served to celebrate their Silver Jubilee as a couple. The actor, during an interview with The Guardian, jokingly explained that one of the good things about their 25-year wait to get married was that that way all the wedding guests got to know each other.

Karen, unlike her husband, has an ordinary day job as a criminal defense attorney. Due to the family’s interests in a wide range of subjects, Toby described some of their activities during the Covid-19 lockdown, saying there was a point (showing rooms in a virtual dollhouse):

“[W]Here, English literature was happening here. The theology was happening here, the drama was happening in it, and the criminal law was happening in the basement.”

Toby, who appears to have listened to some of his wife’s virtual cases during the pandemic, said he would hear terrible things – saying it while sporting a facial expression that showed his appreciation for his wife. As of 2021, Karen and Toby resided with their two college-aged daughters in south London.

The couple share two children

Although they only exchanged vows eight years ago, Toby and Karen had already experienced the joys of parenthood many years before. The couple share two children, Madeline and Holly. There’s only so much information about kids who seem to enjoy their lives out of the spotlight on top of their dad’s fame.

Although they are relatively grown up now, Madeline and Holly haven’t followed in their father’s footsteps in show business. They were able to do what their father couldn’t by avoiding playing.

Toby was born to two actors, Freddie and Jennie Jones, and two of his siblings also became actors. However, as he grew up, he wanted to become an actor. He told the Guardian that joining the “family business” was not his plan and that he wanted to “do something different”.

Even when Toby was enrolled in drama school, he still didn’t think acting was what he wanted. The future British actor icon was more intrigued by the behind-the-scenes production process. However, his physical theater studies at the famous Jacques Lecoq International Theater School made him change his mind.

Toby shared that his kids said he wasn’t showbiz enough

Toby is a veteran of the theater industry. He has appeared in more than 130 film and television productions in a career spanning more than 30 years since his first appearance in “Orlando” in 1992.

He played iconic roles including being the voice of Dobby in the Harry Potter film series and games. Beginning in 2011, Toby portrayed Dr. Arnim Zola in Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, including “Captain America: The First Avenger” starring Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Sebastian Stan and Tommy Lee Jones.

Even with all the experience and a highly respected name in show business, his daughters are unconvinced of their father’s celebrity status. Toby said they thought they should get more invites to cool parties.

The humble actor is described as an actor’s actor, a performer who has mastered the craft but lacks the celebrity status to go with it. Toby doesn’t seem like a character who cares. He said, “All the joy of my job is in the variety. I’m quite meticulous as a person. I often find myself preoccupied with the details.”
