Sathiyan wins men’s individual title at national championship, Sreeja defends women’s gold

After their triumphs, both Sreeja and Sathiyan received a wealth boost of Rs. 2.75 lakh. Sreeja struggled in the championship. She has always managed to get out of a pickle by doing the unexpected.

Sutirtha absolved his opponent of responsibility by not capitalizing on his best opportunities in the title match. Sutirtha was in excellent form and hitting incredible cross shots with his forehand, but Sreeja never gave up his aggressive stance or went into a shell.

Sutirtha won the first match, but she also should have won at least two of the next three as she had two game points in each one. Sreeja eventually beat the West Bengal player, a former national champion, with scores of 9-11, 14-12, 11-7, 13-11, 6-11 and 12-10 thanks to her bravery and play silent.

On the contrary, Sathiyan was in his element during the championship game as evidenced by his frantic match with Harmeet. The former was clearly superior that day as he blasted his way through with thundering forehands. His backhand also supported him without allowing Harmeet to push him.

Sathiyan controlled the show and consistently came to the top with every win except for the opening match, which was too close for his comfort.

Harmeet became upset that he lost his motivation and eagerness to challenge Sathiyan further, allowing him to easily lose the fourth match. In the end, Sathiyan won by scores of 11-9, 11-7, 11-8 and 11-5.

Mohammed Ali and Vansh Singhal of Telangana were beaten by Jeet Chandra and Ankur Bhattacharjee of West Bengal in the men’s doubles match which ended in a straight win.

In the women’s doubles final, Swastika Ghosh and Shruti Amrute of Maharashtra were beaten by Sreeja Akula and Diya Chitale 3-1 thanks to their strong teamwork.

West Bengal’s Ankur Bhattacharjee and Moumita Datta were beaten 3-0 by Manav Thakkar and Archana Kamath in the mixed doubles final. The top seeds Sathiyan and Manika Batra were beaten by the West Bengal team in the first round, 3-0.
