Michelle Williams on the red carpet after the birth of her third child

On Sunday, Michelle Williams made her red carpet return just weeks after welcoming her third child, the second she shares with husband Thomas Kail. The actress supported the premiere of the new Steven Spielberg film The Fabelmans at the AFI festival in Los Angeles. It is also the start of a promotional campaign for the film which should largely offer the actress her fifth Oscar nomination.

Williams wore a black satin off-the-shoulder dress by Celine with a slit up the front of her skirt, showing her heeled sandals. She accessorized with Tiffany & Co. jewelry and had her hair in a neat blonde bob.

In the film, Williams plays Mitzi, a character based on Leah Adler, Spielberg’s late mother. She co-starred in the film with Seth Rogan, Gabriel LaBelle, Paul Dano and Judd Hirsch.

“I think seeing how connected he is to his childhood is really inspiring,” Williams said. People Spielberg’s screenplay. “It’s a place he continues to draw from.”

Family is definitely on Williams’ mind, or at least this growing moment on hers.

“I probably think more about the present moment than what’s to come,” she continued. “Everything you put down in the present moment becomes the past, so that’s what I’m most deeply sensitive to right now.”

Her executive husband produced and directed several episodes of the 2018 miniseries Pits/Verdon, featuring Williams, and that’s where they met. At the time, they were both attached to other people – Williams was married to musician Phil Elverum and Kail was with his ex-wife, Angela Christian. Their first son, Hart, is now two years old and they have been married since 2020. Williams has another child, Matilda Ledger, 17, the daughter of the late Heath Ledger.

Williams announced her third pregnancy during an interview with Variety in May this year.

“It’s totally joyful. Over the years you kind of wonder what they might or might not have in store for you. It’s exciting to discover that something you want over and over again is available once again. This good fortune is not lost on me or my family,” she said.

Williams also opened up about what it was like raising Hart during the pandemic.

“It was a reminder that life goes on,” she said. “The world we brought a baby into is not the world we thought we were bringing a baby into, but the baby is unaware of it. He experiences the unadulterated joy of discovery and the happiness of a loving home.

She added: “Nothing commits you to a better world than raising an amazing child. It’s the ultimate creative act. The most ecstatic moments in life and art are the most transcendent. Having children, that’s how it is. You combine your DNA with someone else to create a new life.
