Shabbat Binder

Here are the first pages of my Shabbat Binder. I am definitely not an illustrator, but these were fun.

I printed everything on Arches 140lb paper and used this book (affiliate link) for ideas on the illustrations. I combined a few of her ideas and just drew them on.

Then I remembered I have different color TomBows (affiliate link) and I always get excited about TomBows. It’s only after I use them that I remember I am only good with the black ones. I went back and added watercolor to the pages. I love the moon and clouds. I actually used some sparkly watercolor a friend gave me.

The one with all the leaves, I drew it with the writing upside down and didn’t realize it until I was finished that all the leaves’ shadows are on the wrong side.

It was really fun, though, and they are pretty enough for their purpose. I’ll have more chances to try different things as I add in prayers. I’m definitely sticking to watercolor from now on, though.

I still have to add the vowels, but there’s a really good chance I’m going to mess that up (or discover where I’ve missed a word or made a typo) so I wanted to scan the illustrations first. At least, if I have to fix some typos, I’ll have had practice with the illustrations.
