Christopher Nolan's Reenactment Of 'Dunkirk' Reveals New Trailer

It had looked like the new Trailer for Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk wouldn't premiere online until it premiered in theaters with Rogue One. But Nolan and Warner Brothers waited until two days beforehand to put up the next look at next summer's war epic instead.

The first teaser only lasted a minute, and was mainly taken up by the build up to the bombing of a transport boat, which was never actually shown. However, much more of the attack on Dunkirk and on the Allied soldiers trying to fight and escape is shown here.

While young actors like Fionn Whitehead and Harry Styles play the lead characters, Nolan has a few veterans commanding the troops as well, with Kenneth Branagh shown on the ground in the trailer, Mark Rylance shown on the sea and Tom Hardy up in the air.

Yet the headlining name is really Nolan, as he goes from the comic book and sci-fi genres to try and prove a true life war film without superheroes, action stars or fantasy creatures can still be a summer blockbuster too. Unlike in the recent poster, however, the trailer doesn't need to mention his track record on the Dark Knight trilogy, Inception or Interstellar.

Rogue One is technically a World War II movie disguised in the Star Wars canon, so it is fitting that Dunkirk's new trailer will premiere in theaters with it. But much more will be previewed in Rogue One's 15 IMAX 70mm theaters, although the seven-minute sneak peek likely won't come online.

For now, the only place to see the Dunkirk trailer is on the smaller screens at home, although it will reach much larger screens on the night of Dec. 15. The rest of the movie will follow on July 21, 2017.
