The acclaimed Maison Laurent Ferrier, marks its 10th anniversary with the release of a classical watch featuring a timeless dial and case ensemble. The Classic Origin Opaline, housed in a sporty Grade 5 titanium case, upholds the company’s revered standards of craftsmanship and horological virtue. The company has created many complex watches in the history of LAURENT FERRIER, including tourbillons, a minute repeater, a natural escape, a dual-time or even an annual calendar. Furthermore, the Maison has launched a number of different case types, including its iconic Classic. The Galet Classic won a prize in the prestigious Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix (GPHG) in 2010. A tourbillon and a double balance spring as well as a classic, notably smooth, round case were featured in this watch. This has not been an isolated achievement. Furthermore, it inevitably won further accolades as the company launched new models. Indeed, in 2015 and 2018, LAURENT FERRIER enjoyed further success at the GPHG, a notable recognition for its diverse case designs and movements, all conceived in the Genevan atelier of the brand. Such cases and movements tend to endure. The new LAURENT FERRIER timepiece, the Opaline Classic Origin, is built for all people who respect sobriety and virtue. This new edition, produced to mark the company’s 10th anniversary, is housed in a 40 mm classic case and features the same smooth curving lines as the inaugural edition. For this case, however, the case is made of Grade 5 titanium, imbuing the watch with a modern appeal. The Classic Root Opaline exhibits a pure appearance in accordance with the penchant of the Genevan Maison for uncluttered aesthetics. Hour and minute assegai-shaped hands serenely float over a silvery-white opaline handle. The hour track of the slate grey dial is marked with burgundy-colored numerals that prove to be highly legible, give a touch of sportiness, but remain underestimated with taste. Above 6 o’clock is a tiny snailed seconds show featuring a baton-shaped hand. All three hands are made of 18-carat white gold. The hand wound calibre LF 116.01, visible through the back of the display case, is optimised to the highest order. The motion is fitted with a free-sprung equilibrium and a Breguet overcoil. This latter combination increases precision, mitigates spatial errors and reduces isochronism. A further highlight of this campaign is the beloved long-blade ratchet system from the brand. This mechanism, emblematic of LAURENT FERRIER, provides a very friendly feeling when the watch is set, as well as an inimitable sound that is typical of the most demanding timepieces. Assuming that the Classic Origin Opaline is absolutely wounded, it runs autonomously for 80 hours, thanks to its impressive power reserve. Although the Calibre LF 116.01 is simpler than some of the complicated movements of the brand, it still provides the high-end finish found on every other development of LAURENT FERRIER. The bridges are painted with a microblasted, black rhodium finish, softly voiced, and hand-polited tops. Every screwhead is polished in a mirror and the escapement bridge is gracefully painted with a hand-made interior angle, in keeping with the fastidious attention to detail of the Maison.
