Sketch it!

Sketching and Drawing are big parts of an Architect’s life, every idea and design comes from a sketch. However with new technology on creating 3d models and renders, students forget the importance of manual drawing. Honestly, I’m included in that generation of “techy” architects with a different focus other than sketching and drawing, but I find time and I exert effort to also master manual drawing and rendering especially at this age of technology.

To learn and exert effort on the craft is not always easy. I personally have four reasons to be able to draw, for some this may look as excuse on my part but juggling almost 12 hours of work every day and errands or sidelines on weekends doesn’t necessarily make things happen.

      - My first reason is because it’s part of my job. Although my sketches in the offices are definitely not works of art but I use these as means of communication.
- I get to draw when I have nothing to do, and by that meaning no work, no sidelines and no errands.
          - Drawing is the first thing I do on vacations to energize my mind. I can’t use drawing to relax especially after work because my mild OC behaviour immediately kicks in when I draw something.

Below are some of my drawings in school which I was able to find in my storage area few days ago.

Lastly, I usually have an addictive “fan girl” side for celebrities or films. I am a frustrated actress and other than architecture I love to perform. As part of my “fan girl” moments I usually draw portraits or scenes of my favourite actors just to lighten up my mood. I’ve only had the courage now to post my portraits because I think that they are a bit amateurish but sometimes you’ll never know unless you let other people see.
