Busis Ibat Ha Kanayunan (Voices from the Hinterlands) exhibit

Busis Ibat Ha Kanayunan is a research based exhibit by Cian Dayrit that focuses on the history and mythology of Ayta Magbukun community in Bataan. Ayta Magbukun is a marginalized group of indigenous people in Central Luzon that maintains a primarily hunting and gathering lifestyle in their ancestral forest lands. The exhibit looks into the community’s position on the emerging modernization as well as to preserve their unique culture and traditions that is on brink of being homogenous with the urban culture.

Art became the drive to tell the origins of the Ayta Community. It is with this exhibit that we from the lowlands can experience and understand the lives of those in the uplands.

Historical photographs, books and audio recordings are exhibited tells the story of Ayta Magbukun. A cultural timeline of the community that coincides the pre-colonial to modern period of the country is exhibited to show the position of the Ayta group in the modernization of the country.

Artworks and sculptures from collaborations with craftsmen in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar and Cian Dayrit proves the point of the exhibit.
