Good Divorce – Is There Such A Thing?

Good Divorce week is an annual campaign organised by Resolution to promote practical and constructive solutions to divorcing couples. This year’s week focuses on the benefits of getting early legal advice which will provide couples with the understanding and confidence they need to make the best decisions for them and their family.

Resolution is a community of more than 6,500 family law professionals who are all committed to finding solutions for divorcing couples and reducing conflict. Rather than opponents, members of resolution encourage couples to work together in order to find the best solutions for them and their children. Good divorce week aims to highlight the impact of conflict on children (and the wider family) and encourages divorcing couples to put the needs of their children first. When caught up in discussion about divorce or finances, couples can quickly lose sight of the importance of maintaining an amicable relationship with each other. Even where both parties have come to the decision to separate, emotions are running high and the thought of change is stressful, which can ramp up the tension and cause confrontation. This can make things difficult in the future, especially when this requires working together as parents.

However, this does not have to be the case. Resolution members are committed to their Code of Practice and want to demonstrate that having early legal advice from a resolution member can help prevent unnecessary and damaging conflict when a couple make the decision to divorce, especially where there are children involved.

In order to get your ‘good divorce’ off to the best start, the key is getting quality legal advice from a resolution member at the earliest opportunity. In order to support the campaign, Resolution is asking members to commit to giving 30 minutes of free legal or professional advice to those who need it. This is not something new for George Ide – we are always happy to have a free 30 minute initial meeting or call with you to see if we can assist you with matters arising from your relationship breakdown. With two resolution members at the helm, and an experienced mediator and collaborative lawyer, we will be able to provide you with a tailor-made approach to best suit you and your family.

For more information, please contact Alice Leadbeatter from the George Ide family team on 01243 786668 or at [email protected] to find out about the initial consultation process.
