Not much time this week, so we’re doing a Quick one. Just time for a single fact about the most famous breed of sheep dog: Old English Sheep Dogs.

The fact is that they are neither old (the breed has only been recognized since 1888) nor English (most sources say Scottish) nor used for herding sheep (they helped get them to market, but didn’t herd them).

Okay, now we need a quick segue to this week’s band…

The Sheepdogs sound like a band from the American south circa 1974, but they are neither American (they’re from Canada) nor from the south (they’re from Saskatoon, 500km north of the border) nor from 1974 (they formed in 2004 and continue touring as of this writing).

What makes this a beautiful song:

1. The backup vocals in the chorus.

2. Using the word “didactic.”

3. On the album, it’s the first part of a medley, so it ends rather sudd
