Rose Tattoo - So many meanings in one simple flower

Without a doubt, the rose is the most popular type of flower in the world. It is believed that the rose's popularity is linked to romantic associations that roses have among lovers.
Any woman would cherish a bouquet of roses, or even a single rose from her lover, as a token of love and affection. The red rose is undoubtedly the most popular color and is heavily related to romance and sexual relationships.

Love, death, myth and religion

For other people, the rose can have other symbolic meanings as well. Roses have always been associated with love and death. The ancient Greeks believed, among other things, that the first rose was made when Chloris, the goddess of flowers, met a dying tree nymph and turned her into a flower.

Then the goddess of love, Aphrodite, gave the flower its beauty, and the god of wine, Dionysus, added an intoxicating fragrance. Beauty, love, intoxication and death, all in one package; add thorns for a touch of sadness and danger, and you have the perfect symbol of the human condition.

The red rose also has religious connections and symbolizes the Virgin Mary. The people who claim to have seen a vision of Mary say that her appearance is always accompanied by the smell of roses.

If you are thinking about a rose tattoo design, but you are a little reluctant about the design because of the romantic touch, then don't worry - there are enough "real" guys who wear a rose tattoo, often as a reminder of the deceased loved people. Some creative minds have even integrated the rose into a multi-image tattoo, such as a snake wrapped around a dagger in a rose bush or in connection with skulls.
