Flame of Recca Volume 13 Review: Pour One Out For A Real G

Chapters 118-127

We lost two Real Ones this Volume. We gotta pour one out for Kai and Setsuna. I told yall Setsuna was a G when he nearly killed Genjuro for touching his scales. Kai lost honorably to Tokiya in a great fight that had good emotion and storytelling. The ending with Kai revealing who the real killer of Tokiya’s sister is. This gives me hope but at the same time I’m worried about what will happen next. Will Tokiya seek out his master or will her show up to finish Tokiya off, or will he try to persuade Tokiya to coming to the dark side. I heard they have cookies.

Setsuna should have killed Recca. After defeating Rui in a match of lame, Setsuna intended to kill Recca so he wouldn’t be bound by him. Setsuna’s design was on point. I’m glad he got an actual fight and not some buffoonery where Recca wins in the end. I hate Recca but I have to say, writing Raiha’s name in the sand with his feet was pretty smart. Now here’s where the story goes back to fake deep. Recca is a pure idiot but he always wins in the end by coming up with something clever and acting as if that was intentional all along. In actuality, the writer is confused on what he wants Recca’s character to be. He’s an idiot all around but at times he seems to not be an idiot. If we had good character development I could pass this along as how Luffy is flat out retarded but knows how to fight but Recca has had no previous training with anyone has had no character development. He haven’t seen any growth in him compared to the other members of his crew.

Moving on to the next fight we have Mikoto vs Fuko. Before the match starts we see some random ass child with his baby brother on his back. Then we learn that their father was killed last year in the previous tournament. This makes no sense to me. We’ve already been through this vendetta story wit Yashiro and on top of that, who brings a child to a deadly tournament? He’s not even a fighter. Who let him in there a second time. Regardless Fuko has the upper advantage at this point. She mashes Mikoto’s mask to reveal it's a Machine. Then Mikoto actually steps out of the machine to reveal they both are Mikoto. 2 v 1. I liked this volume but Setsuna should have killed Recca.
