An Interview with Professional Wrestler Miracle Mike James

Miracle Mike James has gone everywhere and done pretty much everything in professional Wrestling. He has travelled the country and even fought in the grisly world of deathmatch wrestling at various times in his career. I was lucky enough to have been able to see him about a year ago in Trailblazer Championship Wrestling and immediately was impressed with not only his athleticism, but also his entire personality. He’s a rule-breaker and renegade that doesn’t take crap from anyone. He embodies the D.I.Y. punk rock ethos that I have always felt runs somewhat hand-in-hand with independent professional wrestling, and uses this to add to his unpredictability and mystique.

Mike James is a man of few words, and I was actually pretty surprised that he agreed to Interview with me. Granted, the interview got a bit … interesting at times, but with James, you have to expect that. I was thankful to only be low-key threatened a few times, so that’s a plus! Sit back and get ready for life changing advice involving exotic dancers, woodland animals, thumbs being broken, and much much more. This one is going to be wild, and I hope everyone enjoys it!

Hello Mike, would you mind telling my readers something about yourself?

“I mean that’s why we’re here right? First off, my name is actually Miracle. I love talking about myself. So yeah, long struts down dark alleys, neon lights and doing Smokehouse things with my Smokehouse friends. What else ya wanna know?”

So….uh….Miracle, the winter weather has been terrible outside so far. [edit: since this interview it has warmed up] Since I know you spent a lot of time out there; how much do you miss places like Arizona versus The Midwest?

“Everyone knows I’m straight out of Skull Valley, AZ but a little-known fact about myself is that I spent a year in Anchorage, Alaska. If I could survive that frozen dog turd of a state, I can hack it anywhere. This is nothing. Plus, I’ve got this dope hat to keep me warm.”

The hat in question

What brought you back to this area?

“A very fast car…”

So, how did you get started in this wild world of professional wrestling?

“It’s a pretty crazy story actually. It involves me hitting The Miz with a chair at an Indy show. But that’s a story for another day….”

Who are some of your influences?

“Abstract art and gonzo journalism. But you probably mean wrestling wise. The influences are always evolving but probably RVD & Raven would be the biggest.”

Any favorite wrestling matches you’ve had?

“Too Many to list but probably this one from South Carolina. Or Alabama. Who knows? The match was terrible, and I can’t remember who was in it, but the winner had to get a key or something out of a cage with a rattlesnake in it. That’s an all-timer.”

Do you have any tips for anyone getting started in the business?

“Don’t get too involved with strippers. Fun for the weekend but no more than that.

……Damn, that was a long 12 years……”

What is the biggest mistake one can make when they start out?

“See above…”

Mike James delivering some EXTREMELY specific advice

I noticed you do a lot of your own merch and design a lot of T-Shirts, is art one of your hobbies?

“It’s a hobby, but it’s also a way of life. Somebody told me a long time ago that I was animated. That kinda stuck with me.”

For some of his current designs, check out Planet Sickhouse HERE

What kind of music are you into?

“Punk bands that only know three chords and play in shitty dive bars. Underground freestyle rap battles. Outlaw Hillbilly jug bands. That kinda stuff.”

I am most familiar with you in Trailblazer Championship Wrestling, but where else can people find you?

“My next show is for XWE in Salina, KS March 23rd. Hopefully, I’ll get my hands on Rey Leon after he blindsided me face first into the side edge of a table. I’ve been waiting a long time for revenge and I’m going to get it.”

A lot of people around here may not realize that you have done some deathmatch wrestling, how does that differ, training and prep-wise, than more traditional styles?

“The biggest difference? You know how I like to break, I mean “bend” the rules? Yeah, in a deathmatch there are stipulations but not really rules. Anything goes. And you’re up against guys who aren’t necessarily there to win. Monsters. Real goons. Dudes just there to hurt someone. Last man standing type stuff.”

What do you say to people that brush that style off entirely?

“Nothing really. It’s not for everyone.”

In Trailblazer you seem to be often aligned with Dekin Cane and Rocco the Barbarian at times, how did you guys all hook-up?

“There was money and opportunity involved. It’s a business after-all. Don’t ask anymore questions about that.”

Oof, okay moving on….your allegiance ran you afoul of Curt Gannon last year, do you have unfinished business with him?

“Dude about splatted my brains out of my skull! Of course there’s unfinished business.”

Despite a losing effort, you actually got a standing ovation from the crowd, how did that feel?

“I don’t remember losing but It was well deserved. I’m amazing. The crowd claims to hate me, but deep down inside…..I know they be lovin’ me.”

Speaking of unfinished business. Jared Thumb unfortunately got one over on you at Trails to the Gold and advanced in the tournament, any thoughts?

“I’m gonna break both that dude’s thumbs.”

How do you feel about referee Vito restarting the match?

“I’m gonna break that dudes thumbs too!

I thought this was supposed to be a friendly interview?!

You tryin to get me heated up?!”

Oh! oh no Miracle…..uh….who is a dream opponent of yours?

“A bear. I want to wrestle a bear. As well as a gator. I believe either would do great business at the gate.”

Any good TV, Movies, or books you’re into right now you want folks to check out?

“Hollywood is trash, bro.

Turn off the TV.

Books are good though. Gonzo journalism. Anything written by the renegades, the radicals, the free thinkers. Henry Rollins.”

Finally, if you could travel back in time to any moment in history, what would it be?

“I wouldn’t……F the past……My eyes are only focused on the future and what waits ahead on the Miracle Mile……..”
