Arcadia Pod’s Top Ten Kansas City Area Professional Wrestling Feuds of 2023 – #10

This what I had to say on yesterday’s article:

“This year, I’m trying something different on my blog – I’m going through my local Professional Wrestling coverage and doing a countdown of the ten (well 11 actually) Kansas City area professional wrestling feuds that I felt deserved some recognition. Since late last year, I have attended nearly THIRTY wrestling shows with my son, and have been blessed to have been there for some of the best professional wrestling I’ve seen in my entire life. As a passionate fan of professional wrestling, delving into the vastly underrated well of local talent and feuds has been a great experience.”

So, now that my honorable mention is in the can, it’s time for the tenth best feud of 2023. Make sure to drop me some comments on either social media or this very post about anything I may have missed, because….well this sums it up better than I can explain here:

Please don’t be offended if I have seemingly ignored something from a show I have never been to. I sadly don’t get to attend KCXW much at all, for example, so I can’t speak on any shows from them, but that’s something I hope to change. The same goes for a lot of companies in Central Kansas that occasionally come over here (HCW comes to mind). As companies get more of a digital footprint, perhaps this will change as I can keep up with their product online at my leisure. I mostly follow three companies because I don’t really have time to go to every show that comes through; occasionally, I’ll dabble in something like World League Wrestling, but it’s very rare. With that in mind, hopefully everyone enjoys this, and maybe I can see other lists like this from other fans!

Without further ado, my number ten entry is from a company I don’t get to do very often, but I felt that it needed to be here!

10. Bert Candy VS Private Practice (NBW)

I don’t really get a chance to go to New Breed Wrestling too often since it would be a VERY long drive to attend most of their Central Missouri shows. I do, however, try to keep up with their online stuff, and since this show happened in Sedalia, MO (about an hour and some change from me), I am including it here. I’ve always considered anything within about a 100 mile radius still within the “Kansas City Wrestling” wheelhouse.

For a large portion of early 2023, “Dirty Deeds” Daniel Maxon decided to make sure Bert Candy was on top of his crap list after Candy was ousted from the inner circle of “Money” Mike Pettis and his goons. Bert had been hanging around Dr. Isin because they had been longtime friends before Isin even won the championship belt. Many felt that Candy’s friendship with Dr. Isin was making Isin soft, a fact that did not make Pettis very happy since he lives to make money and keep it. This all came to a head when a hair vs hair match was signed for May 2023, and the odds were obviously against Bert.

After a referee got knocked out, Bert was presumably going to get assistance from Dr. Isin, only to be utterly stabbed in the back. Pettis had obviously made the call, and Bert was the victim. For the rest of the summer, Bert teamed up with the likes of Slammer and occasionally came across members of the Pettis Crew, but it seemed like the feud was largely over.

Eventually, Dr. Isin himself was betrayed, and Nothin’ Neater Derek Teter walked out of Sedalia in November as the new Heavyweight Champion. It was revealed at the end of the match that Teter had once again aligned himself with “Money” Mike Pettis and Pettis had turned on Dr. Isin. Will Isin and Candy mend their broken friendship in 2024? Only time will tell.
