Arcadia Pod’s Top Ten Kansas City Area Professional Wrestling Feuds of 2023 – #6

Once again, my intro from a few days ago:

“This year, I’m trying something different on my blog – I’m going through my local Professional Wrestling coverage and doing a countdown of the ten (well 11 actually) Kansas City area professional wrestling feuds that I felt deserved some recognition. Since late last year, I have attended nearly THIRTY wrestling shows with my son, and have been blessed to have been there for some of the best professional wrestling I’ve seen in my entire life. As a passionate fan of professional wrestling, delving into the vastly underrated well of local talent and feuds has been a great experience.”

The Countdown so far:

  • HM – The Tonys Vs Storm Dior (TSW)
  • 10. Bert Candy VS Private Practice (NBW)
  • 9. Luke Langley’s Revenge Tour (CSW)
  • 8. Shooter Shylynn VS Aminah Belmont (Trailblazer)
  • 7. Max Sterling VS Trailblazer Locker Room

Make sure to drop me some comments on either social media or this very post about anything I may have missed, because….well, this sums it up better than I can explain here:

Please don’t be offended if I have seemingly ignored something from a show I have never been to. I sadly don’t get to attend KCXW much at all, for example, so I can’t speak on any shows from them, but that’s something I hope to change. The same goes for a lot of companies in Central Kansas that occasionally come over here (HCW comes to mind). As companies get more of a digital footprint, perhaps this will change as I can keep up with their product online at my leisure. I mostly follow three companies because I don’t really have time to go to every show that comes through; occasionally, I’ll dabble in something like World League Wrestling, but it’s very rare. With that in mind, hopefully everyone enjoys this, and maybe I can see other lists like this from other fans!

Number six somewhat carries on from what was EASILY my favorite feud of 2023, and truthfully has not fully come to a true ending, but what has happened so far has been pretty fun.

6. Roscoe Leech VS The Premier (CSW)

Before we get to current times, let’s take a look back at 2022, back when I had just started dipping my toe into the local Kansas City professional wrestling scene after a long hiatus. When the feud between The Tribe and The Premier started, The Premier were a pair of promising young babyface upstarts that wanted to make a name for themselves. They crossed The Howletts at DWF Aftermath with the feud only escalating from there. Prior to this event, the standout match of the company’s history was a Street Fight between the two at DWF No Turning Back, a match that not only upended what we thought about the two teams (they each flipped with The Howletts becoming babyface and vice versa), but it set the stage for what was to come.

For months, The Premier flourished under the tutelage of the (at the time) nefarious Roscoe Leech, and kept attacking Anaya and Hoodie in an attempt to solidify their tag-team supremacy in the company and possibly run them out. Before December, Michael Strider had a tough decision on his hands, and realized the only way to ensure some finality to the whole thing and stop the escalating tit-for-tat back and forth was to introduce a steel cage. This was hopefully going to end the feud one way or another, no matter the cost.

For The Howletts, the stakes were immense – If The Howletts lost they would have had to split up as a team and leave CSW forever. If The Premier lost, Coach Frass was promised five minutes of one-on-one action with Roscoe Leech. The stage was set for Roscoe getting his comeuppance for months of hostilities.

The Premier lost their Ultimate Jeopardy cage match at Deal with the Steel IV and Roscoe suffered the consequences – being left in a cage with an accomplished mixed martial arts trainer in Coach frass Azab. This match was going to be a good indicator of where The Premiers‘ heads were at moving into 2023, but I don’t think anyone truly foresaw what was going to happen next. Left bloodied and embarrassed, the 2023 Roscoe was somehow….different.

Normally, Roscoe Leach is a very hands-on manager. He’s good at what he does, and if that means bending the rules ever so slightly, then by God, that’s what he’s going to do. He’s always been somewhat of an “ends justify the means” sort of guy. In a match against St. Louis’ own Mason St. Goods and Chris Hendrix, fans had an entirely new version of Roscoe – one that seemed to not care at all about what was going on in the ring. He was noticeably frustrated with the choices that his team was making at numerous times, seemed disgusted with their showboating and arrogance, and more or less just “wasn’t there” for lack of a better thing to say. And if the crowd didn’t pick up on any of that while the match was going on, Roscoe’s noticeable displeasure with the prospect of helping The Premier in the subsequent “end match beatdown” sent ripples through the crowd.

A 2022 Roscoe Leech would have been in there beating the crap out of whoever they came across at the drop of a hat, but this was a completely different situation.

Then “the shot heard ’round the world” happened when Roscoe walked up to Scott Tyler looked him right in the eyes and yelled something like “stand up, everyone here believes in you!” an event that eventually foreshadowed his future management of the would-be “Giant Killer.” After Roscoe grew a conscience, SK Bishop and Campbell Myers slowly grew apart from Roscoe until the unthinkable happened – they beat him like a dirty rug right in the center of the ring. Despite being injured, he showed back up for the next show stronger than ever!

If I were to time travel back to last year and tell a slightly younger version of myself that Roscoe Leech was going to selflessly sacrifice himself for the greater good, sort of like Randy Quaid in Independence Day, I would have laughed in my own face. However, that is exactly what happened towards the end of Central States Wrestling – A Glitch in the Matrix, when Roscoe valiantly stopped cheating being done by The Premier by driving his Steerable Knee Scooter for Foot Injuries directly into them likely injuring himself again in the process.

Managing “The Giant Slayer” Scott Tyler, Roscoe Leech was able to secure win after win for his illustrious Leech Talent Agency, once again showing everyone that he’s easily one of the best in the business.

In another rare singles match-up, the last for 2023, fans were treated to SK Bishop and Kenny Alfonso squaring off in a match that I’m pretty sure nobody expected to end well. In fact, these next two matches were ostensibly one BIG match after Campbell Myers started interfering when Bishop was close to losing. This started an insane brawl involving a freshly-healed Roscoe Leech and Scott Tyler battling off both Myers and Bishop. After this bout collapsed entirely, Myers and Tyler started their match, when everything went to hell yet again, resulting in a second no contest and a scathing rebuke from CSW management.

This included Michael Strider announcing a No DQ Street Fight at the next show involving all four men. With the cancellation of the January show, pending a new February date, my fingers are crossed we see the end of this feud coming up. Roscoe deserves closure, and the fans are eager for the match that I’m sure will steal the show yet again.
