Arcadia Pod’s Top Ten Kansas City Area Professional Wrestling Feuds of 2023 – #3

Once again, my intro from a few days ago:

“This year, I’m trying something different on my blog – I’m going through my local professional Wrestling coverage and doing a countdown of the ten (well 11 actually) Kansas City area professional wrestling feuds that I felt deserved some recognition. Since late last year, I have attended nearly THIRTY wrestling shows with my son, and have been blessed to have been there for some of the best professional wrestling I’ve seen in my entire life. As a passionate fan of professional wrestling, delving into the vastly underrated well of local talent and feuds has been a great experience.”

The Countdown so far:

  • HM – The Tonys Vs Storm Dior (TSW)
  • 10. Bert Candy VS Private Practice (NBW)
  • 9. Luke Langley’s Revenge Tour (CSW)
  • 8. Shooter Shylynn VS Aminah Belmont (Trailblazer)
  • 7. Max Sterling VS Trailblazer Locker Room (Trailblazer)
  • 6. Roscoe Leech VS The Premier (CSW)
  • 5. Bobby Joe Black VS Salum Gust (Trailblazer)
  • 4. The Iceman VS Franco Varga (TSW)

Make sure to drop me some comments on either social media or this very post about anything I may have missed, because….well, this sums it up better than I can explain here:

Please don’t be offended if I have seemingly ignored something from a show I have never been to. I sadly don’t get to attend KCXW much at all, for example, so I can’t speak on any shows from them, but that’s something I hope to change. The same goes for a lot of companies in Central Kansas that occasionally come over here (HCW comes to mind). As companies get more of a digital footprint, perhaps this will change as I can keep up with their product online at my leisure. I mostly follow three companies because I don’t really have time to go to every show that comes through; occasionally, I’ll dabble in something like World League Wrestling, but it’s very rare. With that in mind, hopefully everyone enjoys this, and maybe I can see other lists like this from other fans!

Number three didn’t finish out the way some fans wanted, but it was a solid feud, nonetheless.

3. “Magnum” Dak Draper VS “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt

The main event of CSW Iron Sharpens Iron was a sixty minute Iron man Match between “The Magnum” Dak Draper and “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt, a match so big that thirty-five minutes was nowhere near long enough at CSW Coronation. These two men had been taking digs at each other for months in regards to who the actual “King of the Mountain” is in Central States Wrestling, and I feel like most fans wanted that question answered. The feud between the two had been going back as far as early 2022 when Wyatt had just won the DWF Championship, and for a long time a match for that belt eluded Dak Draper.

I think everyone will agree that the 2022-2023 rivalry between “The Magnum” Dak Draper and “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt was easily one of the most-exciting feuds in all of Missouri and Kansas Wrestling today. Perhaps, even one of the best feuds in the whole country. They have traded wins in the past, with Draper never being able to clench the DWF Championship from Wyatt, only to upset him to become the inaugural Central States Champion later on. This was only one of two losses that Wyatt suffered in his entire run in the company so far.

After that win, and the introduction of a parallel championship, fans seemed confused for months as to who the “CHAMPION” of Central States Wrestling was. Was one of them basically a midcard belt, or were they both on equal footing? Eventually, a call was made to unify the belts from upper management. Draper and Wyatt battled it out for thirty minutes at Coronation and got a time limit draw, then failed to reach a conclusion after five more minutes was tacked on. So, at Iron Sharpens Iron a SIXTY MINUTE Iron Man Match was anounced.

Usually when I see an Iron Man Match get announced for literally any wrestling show I get worried. Historically, they are a bit of a mixed-bag, and some can be VERY boring. In cases like that, nothing happens for like 45 minutes, then somebody gets a cheap win at the end – not exactly something I wanted to see, and not something my son could sit through. Thankfully, with CSW and the caliber of performers on their roster, this should have not even been a thought in my mind. “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt and “Magnum” Dak Draper absolutely crushed it and even my seven year old son, who has a short attention span, was glued to the match. Mind you, this wasn’t one hour of high-spots or anything, but a well-structured and entertaining match that was as balanced as it was exciting.

Jeremy Wyatt knew that time was against him, and made sure to run-down the clock whenever he had even the slightest opportunity to do so. This included numerous times of him getting out of the ring, running around for ten seconds, then scoring cheap hits on Draper. If Jeremy Wyatt had a super-power it would be near unbeatable ring-awareness, because he can take any situation and turn it into something that helps him out. Take, for example, what happened towards the end of the match.

To say this match is going to be controversial is quite the understatement, as the continuing backstage brawl between the likes of Maddox, Coach Frass Azab, Hoodie Howlett, and Anaya Howlett against Austin Reddick, Greg Jovi, Moonshine Mantell, and Derek Neal spilled into the match about five minutes away from the end, and could have very likely caused the outcome of Jeremy Wyatt winning that knock-out victory over Dak Draper.

Tainted as his win was, Jeremy Wyatt is the undisputed Central States Champion, with the DWF belt being folded in and retired, cementing his name as the true “King of Kansas City Wrestling”. That was until Gil Rogers beat him a few months later!

I’m sure that in the grans scheme of things, this feud is far from over. It seems that as long as one of these men is around the other will pop up and become a spoiler for them. When it’s said and done, the fans will benefit the most from some solid wrestling!
