Arcadia Pod’s Top Ten Kansas City Area Professional Wrestling Feuds of 2023 – #1

Once again, my intro from last week:

“This year, I’m trying something different on my blog – I’m going through my local professional wrestling coverage and doing a countdown of the ten (well 11 actually) Kansas City area professional wrestling feuds that I felt deserved some recognition. Since late last year, I have attended nearly THIRTY wrestling shows with my son, and have been blessed to have been there for some of the best professional wrestling I’ve seen in my entire life. As a passionate fan of professional wrestling, delving into the vastly underrated well of local talent and feuds has been a great experience.”

The Countdown so far:

  • HM – The Tonys Vs Storm Dior (TSW)
  • 10. Bert Candy VS Private Practice (NBW)
  • 9. Luke Langley’s Revenge Tour (CSW)
  • 8. Shooter Shylynn VS Aminah Belmont (Trailblazer)
  • 7. Max Sterling VS Trailblazer Locker Room (Trailblazer)
  • 6. Roscoe Leech VS The Premier (CSW)
  • 5. Bobby Joe Black VS Salum Gust (Trailblazer)
  • 4. The Iceman VS Franco Varga (TSW)
  • 3. Dak Draper VS Jeremy Wyatt (CSW)
  • 2. Ace Steel VS Jeremy Wyatt (CSW)

Make sure to drop me some comments on either social media or this very post about anything I may have missed, because….well, this sums it up better than I can explain here:

Please don’t be offended if I have seemingly ignored something from a show I have never been to. I sadly don’t get to attend KCXW much at all, for example, so I can’t speak on any shows from them, but that’s something I hope to change. The same goes for a lot of companies in Central Kansas that occasionally come over here (HCW comes to mind). As companies get more of a digital footprint, perhaps this will change as I can keep up with their product online at my leisure. I mostly follow three companies because I don’t really have time to go to every show that comes through; occasionally, I’ll dabble in something like World League Wrestling, but it’s very rare. With that in mind, hopefully everyone enjoys this, and maybe I can see other lists like this from other fans!

Next up is a feud that hasn’t fully ended quite yet, but I can see the finale building to something insane.

1. Miracle Violence Reborn VS The Tribe (CSW)

In 2023, the dust didn’t even have time to settle on the nearly year-long feud between The Tribe and The Premier before Greg Jovi and Miracle Violence Reborn stepped in to try to claim the top tag team spot in the company. The Tribe aka The Howletts (Hoodie and Anaya) are the fan favorites of CSW and survivors of many big battles that came to be the highpoints of CSW in 2022. The Tribe, however, are banged up, even with a few months resting from Deal With The Steel IV. That’s likely why Greg Jovi’s Miracle Violence Reborn targeted them, as if seeing a wounded animal in a trap. Miracle Violence Reborn (Moonshine Mantell and Derek Neal) are a team that took months of unbridled hatred towards each other and harnessed that fury into a physical force that could rival most natural disasters.

This feud fully kicked off back in April at Violence Begets Violence when the two teams were paired up against each other. Everyone pretty much assumed that Miracle Violence Reborn vs The Howletts was going to be hard to contain, but I doubt anyone expected the whole thing to collapse entirely, forcing the referee to call for a “No Contest.” As always, a “draw” didn’t sit well with either team, and fans were less than thrilled about the call. Both Moonshine Mantell and Derek Neal famously had to be pulled apart and forced into a leather strap match at one point for a similar reason, so many weren’t sure what was in store for these two teams.

At Aftershock, there was a match between Anaya Howlett and Moonshine Mantell that descended into chaos once again, resulting in a double count-out. This was somewhat “the calm before the storm” as the next show, Coronation, was when everything went off the rails. Not only did Miracle Violence Reborn come out to attack Adam Azab during his debut match, but a trend of constantly coming out and interfering in the show started. They came out and attacked Colorado-based Maddox, a huge man that has since become an honorary Tribe member, and a frequent Howlett ally. They also attacked The Tribe themselves later in the show after they defeated Jabari King & The Kenway.

At Iron Sharpens Iron, a security detail had to be provided to ensure that a match between The Howletts and Miracle Violence Reborn actually started without immediately devolving into a brawl. It was an intense match with numerous chair shots and guardrail whips outside of the ring, and somehow there managed to be an actual winner! Unfortunately, Greg Jovi and his goons were not going to let their loss just sit there, and a never-ending battle that haunted the night commenced…

They once again attacked Maddox during his match with Austin Reddick, a man that Jovi seemed keen to bring into his fold. Their “war” likely caused _Dak Draper his match during the Iron Man Match, and it seems like no wrestler or fan alike is safe from these guys. My own son is furious at Derek Neal for stepping on his foot as MVR jumped into the ring at one point, and he won’t be satisfied until The Tribe stands tall against all of Jovi’s goons.

At A Glitch in the Matrix, the last match of this feud (so far) happened, and in the aftermath Hoodie Howlett would be out for a number of months with an injury, and Miracle Violence Reborn would be suspended. This was, without a doubt, one of the more shocking moments in all of CSW history. I likely sound like a broken record here, but something has to happen to stop the rampage of Greg Jovi’s Miracle Violence Reborn before it’s too late.

What started out as a fairly solid brawl between the teams of The Tribe (Maddox, Anaya Howlett, and Hoodie Howlett) w/ Coach Frass Azab and Miracle Violence Reborn (Derek Neal, Moonshine Mantell, and Austin Reddick) w. Greg Jovi, went to a No Contest after MVR seemingly got annoyed that they were not winning “as fast as they should” and started attacking everything in their way including huge electrical rigs and CSW Owner and Matchmaker Michael Strider.

The visuals of a busted open Derek Neal, pouring blood from his face all over the ring, looming over an injured Hoodie Howlett, and Moonshine Mantell wrecking equipment near the audience were a definite sight to be seen. I think Strider finally had enough. The match was ruled a no contest. Strider was attacked, and Miracle Violence Reborn was expelled from the venue without pay and suspended. Here’s hoping that stops the attacks for now, but I have a sinking suspicion that this isn’t over – not in the slightest. CSW just announced a tournament for brand new tag team championships, and I have a feeling we may know who the two teams will end up!
