An Interview with Professional Wrestling Manager Dekin Cane

When I seek out wrestlers to do interviews with, which is still something fairly new to me, I usually try to go for people that I can relate to, guys that compliment my personality and I feel safe trying to talk to. Today is not one of those occasions! In order to try to balance out my professional wrestling coverage, and lend a voice to anyone I could, I decided to try to interview the likes of Rocco the Barbarian and Dekin Cane only to get a bit of a run-around. I threw some money their way in the form of me buying merchandise (which coincidentally these guys have the best at any show, and no they are not forcing me to say this) and was granted the opportunity to POSSIBLY get some questions in. It took a while, and I can’t stress how much this put me out, but I was FINALLY able to get this in the bag.

Rocco doesn’t really talk, and honestly, I am not even sure he can do much but scowl, fight people, and grunt menacingly. As a result, Dekin Cane was the mouthpiece for this whole thing. This was not a wholly pleasant experience, and I may have to start a Gofundme or something in the aftermath as you will soon see. I’m not sure I can sneak into the next show without Dekin seeing me and accusing me of mental anguish, and the dude has a heavy wrench at all times, so that’s fun. Be sure to like, comment, and share this thing so my potential monetary problems will be all worth it.

So why did I do this? I have been attending Trailblazer Championship Wrestling shows all year now, and one thing I have noticed is how much Dekin Cane and Rocco the Barbarian dominate in almost every match they are in. I would be hard-pressed to say their methods are always above-board, but I guess you can’t argue with the results. I figured getting to peer into Dekin’s mind a bit might shed some light on his methods to success. In my interview, I learned some surprising things about Dekin’s past, his relationship with Rocco, his goals for 2024, and more. Dekin even imparts some relationship advice and discusses his support of the spa industry. It’s a wild ride, so hang onto your hats here folks. Without further ado, let’s get to know Dekin Cane!

Note: This interview was conducted electronically in November of 2023.

Can you tell everyone a little bit about yourself?

“I work under the name Dekin Cane. I got into the business in 2003 and wrestled for about 12 years, stepped away for a couple years, and then got back in as a ring side manager. I currently represent Rocco The Barbarian. I’ve worked at a few places out of state, but mostly Kansas is where you will find me at the moment.”

Outside of wrestling what are you into? (Hobbies, movies games etc.)

“I spend a lot of time teaching my nephews how to play the old video games I loved playing. I hope to get their skills to a level that they can play No Mercy on N64 so I can absolutely DESTROY them Hahaha.”

What made you so proficient with your signature wrench?

“It’s actually my late grandfather’s wrench, he used to work on 747s. After he passed I would keep it by my bed as a “security blanket” of sorts in case of a break in. Well, the night I discovered that it had much more useful applications was also the same night I broke up with one of my ex girlfriends . I learned two things that night, 1) never break up with a woman when she is standing next to a wall mounted pirate sword, and 2) grandpa’s wrench can be used for defense purposes.”

Do you have any tips for aspiring professional wrestlers? Recommendations?

“I would say get a lay of the land before you get in. Go to the shows of the companies you’re considering. Take note of the quality of the matches, the promotion itself, the type of brand they put out, and look into the trainers and who trained them.”

What is the biggest mistake a young wrestler can make?

“Going cheap on your training! Quality is never free or cheap. I’ve heard people speak about their training schools and brag about being the longest running school in their area. Let me ask you this though, if cockroaches have been in a beat down house the longest does that mean they are adding value to said house?? Long story short do your research before you make a bad choice and have to be retrained later on.”

Quite the colorful metaphor…

So, What got you into professional wrestling in the first place?

“My uncle, one of the BIGGEST Ric Flair fans you will ever meet! He knows almost all there is to know about the NWA, the wrestling organization AND the music group cause he is just awesome like that.”

What is your all-time favorite wrestling match to watch?

“Yikes!….. that’s hard. What comes to mind first is Bret and Shawn’s Ironman match at Wrestlemania 12.. also my favorite pay per view too.. yes I said pay per view I’m old haha.”

How about becoming a manager, any tips?

“DON’T DO IT! I fully intend on cornering the market and I don’t need any wannabes cramping my style!…. if I WERE to pass some wisdom I would say don’t forget that it’s not about you it’s about your clients. They succeed then you succeed.”

What wrestlers/managers do you look up to? Which are your favorites?

“Wrestler I have to go with Mick Foley cause I feel like I relate to his personality. With managers I gotta say Bobby the Brain and the great and magnificent Jim Cornette. I can only hope to one day be of the same caliber as those two men.”

I have mostly seen you in Trailblazer Championship Wrestling managing Rocco the Barbarian and occasionally “Miracle” Mike James, is there anywhere else you currently work?

“There have been a few companies that have reached out being interested in working together in March, but no dates have been set, so I don’t want to count my chickens on that one yet. The Barbarian and I have worked in Illinois quite a bit, but at the moment we’re calling Trailblazer our home and we aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. We still have business with a couple “individuals “ that needs attending.”

What do you look for in a client?

“The future. I don’t waste my time on ‘maybe talent'”

Dekin and Rocco at Monster’s Brawl II

Any new prospects? Have you been scouting for new talent?

“My eyes are always open for new talent. This is a business after all. I would be a fool if I wasn’t considering all of my options.”

You have led Rocco the Barbarian to numerous wins this year, what is your working relationship like?

“In a word, successful haha. Although I don’t think I like your implications that I had anything to do with his victories outside of moral support. I’m just a simple humble very handsome man who has luck in the talent he represents. ;-)”

That was not my intention…um…Speaking of Rocco, how did you even meet the guy?

“Well that is an interesting story. After my mother passed I went searching for my father who had left us when I was young. I found my father FAR off the beaten path in the mountains, and with him a brother I never knew I had. Quite literally raised in the wild I knew the perfect place for my savage brother in the world you and I live in. In the squared circle. We have been making a name for ourselves ever since.”

The Barbarian is a man of few words…

So, You guys had a number of run-ins with Curt Gannon throughout the summer, is there still a
“beef” there?

“……..BEEF!? BEEF!!!!! Would you or would you not call a $50,000 medical bill do the severe trauma I suffered at the hands of that beast beef?? COMPLETELY unprovoked I might add! Do you realize how many day spas I have to visit a week to ease my stress from his attack on me!? That $50,000 keeps growing, and NOW that you have forcefully caused me to relive my trauma my next spa visit bill will be sent to YOUR offices sir!”

Oh man….um…..so, At Monster’s Brawl II, you kind of admitted to messing up Kevin Gutierrez’s car, are you worried about any reprisals?

“You’re lucky I don’t end this little Interview now with all these accusations your throwing at me!

I made two very different statements at Monster’s Brawl 2. That a major car part fell off of Corn Boi’s car, and that I loved all the different uses that my wrench provides. The fact you put those together to come up with the conclusion that I had anything to do with his car troubles is completely on you and misleading to your readers.”

Once again, not my intention! I’m just sayi……sigh……If you could manage absolutely anyone, who would it be?

“If we’re talking anyone I would say Eddie Guerrero. I have a feeling we could have made a lot of money together. ;-)”

Dekin has unsettled business with “The Suplex Cyclone” Curt Gannon

This might be more up your alley!….If you could kick anyone in the face right now without any repercussions, who would it be?

“That no good piece of trash Curt Gannon…. And that’s TWO spa visits your paying for for making me say his name again!”

What has been your personal highlight of 2023?

“Blazing trails at Trailblazer with my savage brother.”

What are some of your goals for next year?

“I think it’s about time my client had some gold around his waist. To my knowledge there is not yet a champion for Trailblazer. We may have to change that.”

I’m a big history guy, and I always ask this question – If you could travel back to any point in the past, what would it be?

“I would sail with Blackbeard. That man knew you could win a battle before a sword was drawn or a shot fired.”

Legendary pirate captain, Edward Teach better known as Blackbeard

Dekin Cane does not appear to have his own public Facebook page, but you can find Rocco the Barbarian on Facebook HERE, be sure to give him a follow! Dekin is featured fairly prominently, and I have a feeling he put it together because Rocco seems to hate technology.
