PREVIEW: Central States Wrestling – Bad Moon Rising – November 18, 2023

A Live Professional Wrestling Event

Before we even get started with this, I wanted to make sure people know that the venue for this show was changed at the last minute as per a post on the CSW Facebook page. I have included it below:

“**IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THIS SATURDAY’S SHOW. **
Due to last minute and unforeseen circumstances, we have to change the venue for Bad Moon Rising. The new venue will be the Olathe National Guard Armory located at 1601 W Old 56 Hwy Olathe, Kansas 66061. This is located only 10 minutes from the Lenexa Armory and is easy to find. If you’ve already purchased tickets, you’ll receive an email from us as well. I appreciate everyone’s support and understanding, please share on your timelines so everyone is in the loop. See you this Saturday! -Strider”

Before you stuff yourself full of turkey and pumpkin pie next Thursday, get ready for the fun and excitement that is a Central States Wrestling live event just a few days prior! It seems like the Holiday season has really snuck up on us here, and I can’t think of a better way to kick everything off than attending a weekend wrestling show. Even with the slight change of scenery (Lenexa to Olathe), the show is still a pretty close distance to me for the most part, and I’m sure CSW Management can add yet another venue to the list of ones CSW fans have blown the roof off. This show is a bit different than some of the last few shows, showing off some returning faces, new competitors, and some interesting matchups we’re not used to. Tag-team guys doing singles matches, rematches from over a year ago, and even an exciting main event that would have seemed crazy a year ago. It’s all here at Central States Wrestling – Bad Moon Rising.

This is a run-down of all the announced matches, and what one can expect going into this show. The show is packed to the gills with eight big matches, each highlighting just about every style of pro wrestling you can imagine.

There is sometimes an extra match on the card once the show starts, so don’t be surprised if it looks different in time for my actual review!

The Card:

Note: Due to the venue change, most of these match cards are incorrect, make sure to ignore anything that says “Lenexa” on here.

This match is a total wild card to me as I have never seen either Lil Evil or Tiger Pants live or otherwise. Both men work in the Texas wrestling scene and are making their CSW debuts at Bad Moon Rising. I’m always excited to see new guys come to these shows, and you never know, this match could end up stealing the whole show.

“The Dred Nurse” Roberts is a formidable opponent in both stature and ferocity, and is hungry for that elusive first CSW win. Known to use his extensive medical training to help inflict damage on his opponents, Roberts is nobody to mess with on a typical day. My only real concern for him is that he will be facing Anaya Howlett, one half of The Tribe, along with the injured Hoodie Howlett and Coach Frass Azab. That’s a numbers game that not too many men can handle on a normal day, much less than any member of The Tribe. If I were Roberts, I’d attempt to level the playing field a bit a bit – perhaps a bit of hired muscle would do the trick? We rarely get a solo Anaya match, so this ought to be a real treat for the fans in attendence.

Hot off the heels of a match between The Premier (SK Bishop and Campbell Myers) versus Mike Outlaw and Scott Tyler, I see that that whole dynamic is being followed up with a pair of singles matches. First off we have “Dat Boi” SK Bishop facing off against “2nd to None” Kenny Alfonso, who is taking the place of Outlaw for this match. I’m sure both Roscoe Leech and Campbell Myers will be involved here, so it will be interesting to see where this goes. At A Glitch in the Matrix, Leech heroically scarified himself to stop Bishop from cheating via his knee scooter, so I’m sure Bishop will be itching for feedback. He better not lose sight on the ultimate goal here, though, as Kenny Alfonso is a former number one contender with an impressive winning streak behind him.

Much the same as above, this is obviously a revenge match of sorts, pitting “The Giant Slayer” Scott Tyler and “The Souperstar” Campbell Myers against each other. Tyler still holds an insane W/L record in the company and cannot be overlooked due to his size. With Roscoe Leech and SK Bishop in play, both of these matches ought to be crazy.

After suffering a humiliating loss to Gil Rogers, “The Black Diamond” Luke Langley “righting the ship” a bit last month and seems to be determined to make up his lost time. He’s been a bit under the weather due to injury for the past month, so this will be a real test for him to see if he’s at 100%. He will be coming up against “The Southern Flamingo” Kody Lane, who is a total mystery to me, as I have not seen him perform as of yet. If Langley’s recent message on the CSW Facebook page is any indication, Langley is preparing for “a rampage”, and doesn’t think Lane has what it takes to step up with langley in 2023.

Strong words for the Southern Flamingo

Being a fan of Luke’s despite all the despicable stuff he seems to try to get away with in the ring means that there’s always a chance he’ll get carried away and get himself in trouble yet again, but fingers crossed he can hit that brainbuster and move back up the ladder. I’m excited to see “The Southern Flamingo” Kody Lane, but he better watch out!

Maggie Lee has wrestled all over this area, but I have always missed her for one reason or another. I will be glad to see her in person, because she did pretty well on AEW a while when they were in town! She will be facing perhaps one of the hottest female talents in the entire area with “The Little Blue Dragon” Tootie Lynn. I have personally witnessed the awe-inspiring presence of Tootie Lynn at CSW, KCXW, and New Breed Wrestling events, and let me tell you, she steals the show every time. Lynn’s hybrid style, infused with powerful strikes from her martial arts background, makes her a formidable adversary that most would hesitate to face.

When we last saw Luigi Primo it was December of 2022, and he faced none other than his rival for this weekend in one of the hottest feuds of that year. The rivalry between Luigi Primo and Ethan Price goes back to the summer of that year. Bested on two occasions by Price, Primo was labeled as a gimmick and unworthy to be in the ring by the insufferable Price, something that became very emotional for Primo. At Central States Wrestling – Vengeance, Primo vowed to score a win by any means necessary, and restore the fans investment in himself. Right off the bat, Price had Primo’s signature pizza crust banned. It looked bleak for Primo, but he was able to persevere and come out with a huge win in the end. Luigi Primo unfortunately spend the majority of this year on the injury list, but he’s back to prove himself yet again, and I for one can’t wait!

Gil Rogers was a man that famously had NEVER won a single match in Kansas City until he answered an open challenge from Orion Starlight a few months ago. Riding that high from that win, he went on to do the unthinkable and secure a victory over “The Black Diamond” Luke Langley, and another from “The Dred Nurse” Roberts, ultimately winning himself the number one contendership for the CSW Championship. This match is one I’m REALLY looking forward to, and honestly it could go either way. Yes, The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt has had a stranglehold on the championship for over two years now, but Rogers taps into the energy of the fans and performs miracles. He has the heart of an entire pack of lions and the “never-say-die” attitude that you don’t see in most men. I for one encourage Gil’s Army to help Gil achieve the unthinkable and snag all the gold he can!
