PREVIEW: Trailblazer Championship Wrestling – Monster’s Brawl II – October 21, 2023

An upcoming live professional Wrestling event –

It has been a LOOONG two months since Trailblazer Championship Wrestling – Emerald City Showdown, and I don’t know about the rest of my wrestling readership on here, but a new show is long overdue. As we head into Fall, and out of the sweltering heat that made most summer wrestling shows just a tad uncomfortable, it’s what I would consider the perfect time to go watch some awesome matches. What really sets TCW apart from other promotions in the area is their focus on building a positive family-friendly atmosphere with a product that is suitable for anyone at really any age. They keep their costs down and offer all the amenities of any show like this including merch, snacks and food, photo ops, and chances to buy wrestler and company merchandise.

With this show being about a week out from Halloween, the promoters are focusing on this show being somewhat of a Halloween party with spooky sights and sounds as well as a Halloween contest for the kiddos in the crowd.

If you have been following these reviews since the tail end of September, this will be my FOURTH wrestling show in four weeks and my third company that I have attended in that time. It’s been a crazy month, but I have been having a blast. There’s just something about going to see independent wrestling that you can’t get from the bigger shows out there, and this past year of me attending anywhere from one to two shows a month has really been a way to breathe fresh air into a hobby of mine that is sometimes packed full of drama and contrarian attitudes.

Fans used to meeting up at the Ottawa, Kansas National Guard Armory will need to get those GPSs out, because there is a change of venue for this show. Monster’s Brawl II will be held in Gardner, Kansas at the site of the Johnson County Kansas fairgrounds. This will be my first time at this particular venue, so we shall see how it stacks up against the various armories I have been visiting all year! I live about an hour and twenty-five minutes from Ottawa, so a shorter drive is always welcome! A change in venue is always a scary proposition for a wrestling show, but with the cooler weather, Halloween activities, and some promotion via AEW’s recent KC-area show, my fingers are crossed that there will be a decent turn-out.

The Card (so far):

Things could change on here at any moment up to the show starting, so I will add/delete or update anything if I have time. Otherwise, I’m sure you all know the saying “card subject to change”, which could always happen.

“Rapid Delivery” Rory Fox Will Be in Action!

You’ve seen him on the Major Wrestling Figure Podcast, you may have even seen him on MTV’s True Life: I’m a Pro Wrestler back in the day, but this weekend you can see him live and in person at Monster’s Brawl II as “Rapid Delivery” Rory Fox is returning to Trailblazer Championship Wrestling. When he last saw Rory, he was teaming up with fellow-Iowan (is that even the right term?) Jared Thumb against Rocco The Barbarian and his protege Dekin Cane. It was a hard-fought match that involved quite a bit of attempted cheating on the part of Rory’s opponents, but the good guys came out on top in the end. While no opponent has been issued for Mr. Fox so far, you better believe that he’s going to be willing and able to take on any challenger, and his heart and tenacity are unmatched.

Jared Thumb VS “Miracle” Mike James

Speaking of Jared Thumb, he’s going to be putting his undefeated streak on the line against none other than “Miracle” Mike James. James has been palling around with the likes of Dekin Cane and Rocco the Barbarian, something that got him a one-way-ticket to oblivion via Curt Gannon back in August. On one hand, Dekin does have a proven track record in TCW, but on the other, I somewhat feel like James was just a sacrificial lamb in Cane’s quest to get back at Gannon after taking a pretty hellacious suplex. Maybe, just maybe, if Mike James can go out on his own, he might have a surprise win up his sleeve. Can Jared Thumb keep his unfathomable winning streak alive after more than a year of stunning every foe he comes across, or will “Miracle” Mike James live up to his name and change the trajectory of the company going forward?

Curt Gannon’s Open Challenge

This is going to be interesting! Curt Gannon has torn his way through most of the TCW roster since his triumphant return to wrestling back in March, and appears to be looking for a real challenge this time around. With no way to really prepare for a specific opponent, Gannon is going to have to go full-on Beast Mode and be ready for absolutely anything at Monster’s Brawl II. We could see a familiar face, a returning talent, or even a huge surprise. I am on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens, and no matter what I’m sure it’s going to be awesome.

Bobby Joe Black VS Van “Bam” Winkle

With his battle against Salum Gust seemingly (and hopefully) behind him, Bobby Joe Black is going to be facing none other than the man with the best mullet in TCW himself, Van “Bam” Winkle. VBW is a completely different sort of opponent than what Black is used to. Rather than coming up against a man consumed with blind anger that can be re-directed and overcome via sheer determination, Black is going to have to really watch out here. Winkle has more wins than most would like to admit based solely on his ability to take advantage of any situation he is in. I wouldn’t say he’s got too many flashy moves or devastating holds, but he’s incredibly smart and willing to do anything to win. He decimated The Iceman due to a well-timed low blow when the referee was not paying attention, and I’m sure Bobby Joe Black would rather not suffer the same fate. This match could really go either way, and it will be interesting to see what happens.

“Corn Boi” Kevin Gutierrez VS Rocco The Barbarian w/ Dekin Cane

In a recent social media post added to the TCW Facebook page, Dekin Cane had some strong words for “Corn Boi” Kevin Gutierrez for Monster’s Brawl II. Speaking on behalf of his client, Rocco the Barbarian, Dekin Implied that “Corn Boi” is just that, an immature “boy” that has no business fighting a MAN like Rocco. Dekin makes it clear that he does not see Gutierrez as a threat, which could be a HUGE mistake. This isn’t the first time that Dekin has rolled into a challenge like this and left Rocco high and dry – his bout with Curt Gannon comes to mind at Tornado Alley pretty clearly still.

We’ve seen Gutierrez push the silliness aside, if not outright using it to distract his opponents, to reveal some insanely competitive grappling and high flying skills. His match with WARHORSE at Tornado Alley blew the roof off of that National Guard Armory in Ottawa, and I’m sure we’ll see that side of him yet again. Rocco and Dekin both better know that if you mess with the corn, you get the cob, and it will spell disaster if they are not careful.

More?

Normally a TCW show has around 7 matches, so I’m fairly certain there will be a some HUGE surprises at Monster’s Brawl II, and that makes this VERY exciting.

In Closing:

Trailblazer Championship Wrestling: Monster’s Brawl II is shaping up to be a solid show that will pump everyone full of the old Halloween spirit that always feels so good this time of year. Being away from The Ottawa National Guard Armory is going to feel weird, but I have no doubt the new venue will be as good if not better! Priority seating is on a first come first-served basis, so get there early. Come join me on Saturday, October 21st and see what has been a genuinely entertaining family-friendly blast these past few months. Believe me, your entire family will absolutely love it!
