PREVIEW: Central States Wrestling – Iron Sharpens Iron 7-29-23

A live professional wrestling event

After missing the last two Central States Wrestling events, it’s about time Arcadia Pod headed back to the wilds of Lenexa Kansas for yet another amazing show. Having just finished up an event from Trailblazer Championship Wrestling, it’s been a big month for Kansas Wrestling, and I’m loving every second of it. I’m going to be honest, a lot has changed in two months, and even though I’m “caught up” with CSW via YouTube, I still feel like I’m missing something! There’s a lot of new faces in CSW right now, as well as a number of long-term feuds that I feel we might be getting close to the logical endpoint for. All-in-all, it looks like I couldn’t have picked a better time than this Saturday to dive back into the product.

The biggest draw for this event is definitely the sixty minute Iron man Match between “The Magnum” Dak Draper and “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt, a match so big that thirty-five minutes was nowhere near long enough at CSW Coronation. These two men have been taking digs at each other for months now in regards to who the actual “King of the Mountain” is in Central States Wrestling, and I feel like most fans want that question answered. Iron Sharpens Iron also marks the first time all year that The Premier and their seemingly wayward manager, Roscoe Leech, are back in good graces with one-another. I have my opinions on how that’s going to go, but we shall see. Finally, the blood feud that has been The Howletts and Miracle Violence Reborn seems to be going towards a big blow-off, let’s just hope that DQ’s, count-outs, and any other sub-par ending doesn’t factor into the culmination of the match!

This is a run-down of all of the announced matches, and what one can expect going into this show. The show is packed to the gills with eight big matches, each showcasing just about every style of pro wrestling you can imagine.

The Card:

“The Mile High Magnum” Dak Draper VS “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt

Fans have seen these two duke it out before, and it’s always a great time when they do. I think everyone will agree that the rivalry between “The Magnum” Dak Draper and “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt is easily one of the most-exciting feuds in all of Missouri and Kansas Wrestling today. Perhaps, even one of the best feuds in the whole country. They have traded wins in the past, with Draper never being able to clench the DWF Championship from Wyatt, only to upset him to become the inaugural Central States Champion later on. Fans have been confused for months as to who the “CHAMPION” of Central States Wrestling is, and a call was made to unify the belts from upper management. Draper and Wyatt battled it out for thirty minutes at Coronation and got a time limit draw, then failed to reach a conclusion after five more minutes was tacked on. So, here we are. a SIXTY MINUTE Iron Man Match – something I have never seen live and something I know will blow the lid off of that armory. Here’s hoping fans get a clear winner this time around and we find out once and for all who the real “King of Kansas City” is.

“The Black Diamond” Luke Langley VS Gil Rogers

Luke Langley is currently undefeated in 2023 with his sights still set on eventually taking on Dak Draper to fulfill his so-called “Revenge Tour”. For those unaware, Langley had easily the worst record in CSW for most of 2021 and 2022, only to turn it around last winter. Since then he has been systematically taking down any opponent that previously beat him to balance his W/L record. Dak Draper has been very elusive lately, missing a number of shows due to scheduling conflicts, then defending his championship against Wyatt to unify the belts. In the meantime, Luke Langley is not the sort of guy that is going to just sit there idle, so he has been taking on anyone CSW can throw at him, such as Conan Lycan at Aftershock. This time around, he will be facing the fan-favorite Gil Rogers, a man that had NEVER won a single match in Kansas City until last month. Will Rogers be able to make it 2-0 for 2023, or will Langley continue his dominance over the CSW roster? This is actually a match I am looking forward to a LOT.

The Premier (SK Bishop and Campbell Myers w/ Roscoe Leech) VS The Hate Keepers (Solomon Tupu and Shain Boucher)

SK Bishop and Campbell Myers have apparently agreed to forgive their longtime manager, Roscoe Leech, for the cold shoulder they have been giving him as of late. There have been tensions between all parties involved going all the way back to December of last year. They suffered a hard-fought loss to Anaya and Hoodie Howlett, which led to Roscoe getting a terrible contractually-stipulated beat down at the hands of Coach Frass Azab at Deal with the Steel IV. Roscoe has either been ignoring The Premier or actively trying to get them not to do things like cheat for months now, usually resulting in near losses. Eventually they got a full-on loss against Team Ambition after Roscoe refused to hand over a horseshoe to bash somebody’s face in. Hopefully Roscoe’s changed demeanor has brushed off on his clients and they can help secure a much needed win. A unified and well-tuned Premier will harken back to 2022 when they were nigh invincible in the CSW tag division.

They will be taking on a debuting tag team called The Hate Keepers which consists of Solomon Tupu and Shain Boucher. This will be my first time seeing both men perform, but if their online reputations are anything to stand by, The Premier have their work cut out for them. As far as I can tell, The Hate Keepers usually run Chicago-area tag team wrestling, so I’m sure getting to potentially take over another area would be a great get for them. There have been a lot of new faces in CSW as of late, and this is one match that really intrigues me because of that fact.

The Howletts (Anaya and Hoodie w/ Coach Frass) VS Miracle Violence Reborn (Derek Neal and Moonshine Mantell w/ Greg Jovi)

This is easily the biggest tag team feud of 2023 in the entire area. Hot off the heels of their big win at Deal with the Steel IV, The Howletts had practically no time to rest before they became the targets of one of the most dangerous forces of nature on the entire CSW roster, Miracle Violence Reborn. Greg Jovi has his eyes set on that top spot in the tag division for a while now, and it’s pretty easy to see who holds that title no matter how informal it is at the moment. These two teams have had multiple encounters go to some form of a no-contest going into this match, so much like with the main event, I really hope that this match is given enough time and leniency from the refs to get to a full conclusive ending. Miracle Violence Reborn has gone as far as to start attacking people like Adam Azab, the son of Coach Frass, so this is definitely personal. I have a feeling this match is going to steal the show.

Mike Outlaw VS “The Giant Slayer” Scott Tyler

It looks like “The Atrocity” Krule might have seen the writing on the wall, realized who he was facing, and feared for his life. I mean, if I was a big dude and realized I was about to come face-to-face with the man dubbed “The Giant Slayer” Scott Tyler in CSW, I’d probably run away as well. Unfortunately, that match had to be scrapped and Mike Outlaw has agreed to take Krule’s place. If I were Mike, I would watch out because Tyler, despite his comparatively small stature, is a force to be reckoned with. He holds one of the best records in the whole company and is currently undefeated in singles competition. In my opinion, this is Mike Outlaw’s match to win and honestly, if Roscoe is there with Tyler, the two could be utterly unstoppable.

“The Chicano Bulldog” Papa Lypto VS “America’s Sweetheart” Ethan Price

This show has an interesting “invasion” of a number of guys coming in from Colorado, and Ethan Price better watch out. He’s not wrestling a competitor like the guys he’s usually up against, and normally he doesn’t fare as well in singles matches as well as he does in three-ways. “The Chicano Bulldog” Papa Lypto appears to be pretty proficient in brawling, so I’m not sure a lot of Price’s tricks will end up working against him. Price is, however, very resourceful, and a notoriously cunning grappler, so we shall see. This match honestly could go either way for me and I’m excited to see how it ends up.

Maddox VS Austin Reddick

Next up on the Colorado invasion are both Maddox and Austin Reddick. Fans were introduced to Maddox at Coronation when he had the unfortunate task of being in the ring with Moonshine Mantell during Miracle Violence Reborn’s almost complete take-over of the show. He’s a big dude and had some impressive offense, but Moonshine was fired up in a way I haven’t seen in a long time. Maddox is up against Austin Reddick who is entirely new to me. I love seeing matches with new faces, and this one is almost a clean slate, so I’m excited.

“2nd to None” Kenny Alfonso VS “The Landshark” Conan Lycan VS Dan the Dad

At Coronation, Kenny Alfonso was a last minute addition to a match between Duke Cornell and Rich Maxwell, and came out on top. This was a much needed win after dropping back down the rankings after a big loss to “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt at Aftershock. I’m not sure how the rankings take three-way matches into account, but I’m sure it all helps. On the flip side, both Dan the Dad and “The Landshark” Conan Lycan are starving for wins in any way they can get them, so this should be an incredibly competitive match.
