How Enjoyable is Life as Someone Who Lives in Las Vegas

Tags: vegas living

Las Vegas is most commonly known for being a resort city. However, what is it like to live there full time? Some of our research has brought us to interesting conclusions. Below are some of the best parts of living in Las Vegas, as reported by its residents.

Tourist Cities Have Their Perks

Some folks move out to Los Angeles when they complete high school. With any large city, the reasons are usually the same. Bigger cities mean more people, and more people equal more jobs. You’re bound to find steady employment if you are living in Vegas. There are more than 12,000 businesses in the city alone.

Vegas is known for its casinos, but it is also well-known for its dining establishments. As a premier destination city in the U.S., it’s a fantastic spot to open up a restaurant or any food establishment. One of the benefits of such destination locations is that your family can easily come and visit you. And with the weather steady at about 80 degrees all year, they won’t mind coming even in the winter.

Many would think that living in a city with so much gambling would be obnoxious, especially if you are not the gambling type. However, there are numerous discounts and hookups only available to locals. Residents can get free tickets to many shows in Vegas. And if you visit some of the casinos even a couple of times, you’ll get invitations for free rooms and free meals.

Outdoor Activities for Everyone

Las Vegas is located in the Mojave desert which means the temperatures are usually hot and dry. The Mojave desert is home to the Devil’s Playground which is over 40 miles of sand and dunes. Vegas is also a stone’s throw from Red Rock Canyon. There are over 27,000 acres of cliffs and fascinating rock formations.

Many hikers and rock climbers come to these western National Parks. Joshua Tree National Park is another popular attraction close to Las Vegas. Joshua Tree is in Southeastern California but it’s a quick drive from Vegas and well worth the trip. Joshua trees are a specific kind of cactus tree that only grows in this part of the world. It’s also one of the best places in the U.S. to stargaze.

Access to outdoor recreation is one of the driving forces for people researching Las Vegas apartments for rent. But if your family is looking for something a little more structured as far as adventure, there is no shortage of fun. The Hoover Dam, which is the largest dam in the nation, is only 30 minutes from Vegas. Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park are close by and you can book a day trip on a bus that will bring you to these stunning cliffs and valleys.

Decent Cost of Living

Although it is a populous region with many locations and attractions that can cost a pretty penny, you can still live comfortably. To begin, there are no state taxes in Nevada, so that’s a great way to save a small percentage of money. There is still sales tax which is around 8.5%. The cost of living is slightly higher than the national average, at about 3%. However, for such a large city with such a vast economy, that is a pretty good rate.

The average home is around $280,000, which is a pretty comfortable price as the median income of the region is $80,000 a year per household. This means that a couple making about $40,000 a year each can afford to buy a home in this sunny city. However, a lot of jobs pay higher and it’s easy to advance in your industry and pull in $65,000.

We consider all of these factors beneficial to living in the Vegas region. If you enjoy the heat and are looking to find a position within the hospitality industry, you’re guaranteed to find a gig in Las Vegas. Plus, the perks are worth sweating in the summer months!
