Xiaomi captures the life of Southeast Asia

For the Xiaomi 12 Series, Xiaomi has partnered with four visual storytellers from the Southeast Asia (SEA) namely, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand. National Geographic Creative Works created the ‘Proactive Action’ campaign for Xiaomi to record and promote awareness of their local experiences. The Philippines’ Gab Mejia, Malaysian Annice Lyn, Thailand’s Sirachai “Shin” Arunrugstichai, and Vietnam’s Linh Pham are the 4 photographers that will take us on a journey through their respective country’s people, culture, and life.

The Philippines’ Gab Mejia and the Beauty of the Cordilleras

The Mountain People in Northern Philippines’ Cordilleras (highest peaks in the Philippines) are documented and highlighted on Meija’s trip to emphasize the significance of cultural and natural conservation and restoration.

Malaysia’s Annice Lyn and the Intricacy of the Wayang Kulit

Documentation of the Wayang Kulit master’s work is documented in Lyn’s photographic work. Lyn wishes to raise awareness of this art form while conserving it for the following generations.

Thailand’s Sirachai “Shin” Arunrugstichai and the Wonder of Prasae Estuary

Arunrugstichai examines Prasae Estuary’s biggest surviving mangrove forest. As well as depicting the biodiversity of this area, Arunrugstichai also demonstrates the intertwined links between the local people and its abundance of natural resources.

Vietnam’s Linh Pham and the Hidden Treasures of Ho Chi Minh City

To find the city’s hidden cultural gems, Pham wanders the streets and alleys of Ho Chi Minh City. Pham visits a nameless coffee shop under the bridge, a museum storing millions of years old relics, a picturesque neighborhood mingled with Vietnamese and Chinese heritage, and a quiet fishing island. He does this with the intention of sharing it with the world.

Master Every Scene

Additionally, Xiaomi is providing a masterclass that anybody who has a Xiaomi 12 Series device may participate in for no additional cost. They will also get the opportunity to meet and learn from Gab Mejia, a National Geographic Photographer, who has been utilizing the Xiaomi 12 Pro to shoot picturesque images. Participants in the masterclass will also have the opportunity to enter a raffle for a Xiaomi Mi-stery Box at the conclusion of the session. On May 14, 2022, the Masterclass offered by the Xiaomi Photography Academy will take place in the Masungi Georeserve.

Celebration of People, Life, and Culture across SEA

And for individuals who wish to show off their abilities and share the intriguing aspects of their lives and cultures, Xiaomi will organize a photography contest called Xiaomi Photography Academy: A Celebration of People, Life, and Culture across SEA. From May 14 through June 14, 2022, everyone who has a Redmi or Xiaomi phone may participate in the picture contest. Participants are urged to capture the finest images that embody the event’s underlying concept. This year’s Grand Prize Winner gets to take home a Xiaomi Smart Package (Mi TV P1 55″, Mi Soundbar, Xiaomi Watch S1, Mi Standing Fan 2), along with being dubbed a Xiaomi Photography Ambassador. Four runner-ups will get Xiaomi Buds 3 as a consolation prize. Keep an eye on the Xiaomi Philippines social media channels for updates on the contest’s rules and conditions.
