*The Weeknd has directed $2.5 million from his XO Humanitarian Fund to support emergency efforts in Gaza.

The United Nations World Food Programme announced the musician’s (born Abel Tesfaye) initiative on Dec. 1, Billboard reports. Thanks to the donation, 1.8 million pounds of food parcels – equivalent to four million Emergency Meals – will be delivered to over 173,000 Palestinians for two weeks, per the report.

“This conflict has unleashed a humanitarian catastrophe beyond reckoning. WFP is working round the clock to provide aid in Gaza but a major scale up is needed to address the desperate level of hunger we are seeing,” said WFP’s Director for the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe Region, Corinne Fleischer.

“Our teams need safe and sustained humanitarian access, and continued support from donors to reach as many people as we can,” Fleischer continued. “We thank Abel for this valuable contribution towards the people of Palestine. We hope others will follow Abel’s example and support our efforts.”

Meanwhile, as we reported previously, Black pastors are calling on Black Americans to support the US/Israel war.

Black faith leaders are refuting claims that Israel is an apartheid state, according to The Christian Post.

In an op-ed for the outlet, Michael Stevens said the Black church has remained silent on Hamas’ massacre of Israeli civilians on Oct. 7.

“Unfortunately, many African American pastors and leaders have a mixed level of apathy and resistance toward Israel as well as empathy for the Palestinian struggle, often making a comparison to the civil rights era,” Stevens wrote. “To add, some consider the African American community to be the most anti-Semitic group in America today.”

Do you agree that Black Americans should be more publicly vocal in support of Israel? Sound off in the comments.
