MSNBC Cancels Mehdi Hasan’s Weekend Show After He Challenged Israeli Adviser – But, Symone Sanders and Michael Steele Get New Wknd Show | VIDEO

*MSNBC is canceling journalist Mehdi Hasan’s one-hour weekly show as part of a new weekend lineup change.

The news-based cable channel is launching “The Weekend,” a morning news show on Saturdays and Sundays, Deadline reports. Per Hip Hop Wired, the news of Hasan’s show ending was met with dismay, considering that he was one of the journalists who had been asking hard questions of the Israeli government as their war against Hamas…,” the outlet writes(see clip above).

Hasan, who joined MSNBC in 2021, will remain a political analyst and fill-in host on the network. His Peacock series will also end.

Per Deadline, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) said it was “bad optics” for the network to axe Hasan’s show “right at a time when he is vocal for human rights in Gaza with the war ongoing.”

Per Deadline, MSNBC host Chris Hayes wrote on Threads, “The nature of this business is that people who are supremely talented sometimes have shows cancelled. It’s rough every time, but it comes with the territory (lord knows I’ve been close myself!).”

Hayes called Hasan “one of the most talented broadcast journalists I’ve ever seen or worked with and probably the single best interviewer in American TV. Grateful to have him as a colleague.”

As Deadline reports, Khanna wrote on X/Twitter, “As a strong supporter of free speech, MSNBC owes the public an explanation for this decision. Why would they choose to do this now?”

The Weekend” show will be hosted by Alicia Menendez, Symone Sanders-Townsend, and Michael Steele on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sander’s show “Symone” was also given the axe.

The network’s changes are effective Jan. 13.

According to Deadline, MSNBC President Rashida Jones said in a staff memo that the changes will “better position ourselves as we head into the presidential election.”

“The Weekend” show “will provide thoughtful analysis and coverage on the state of our country from three trusted voices familiar to the MSNBC audience,” Jones said.
