Clients of Real-Life Attorney (Willie Gary) in Jamie Foxx’s ‘The Burial’ Accuse Him of Being a Scammer

*Jamie Foxx stars as real-life lawyer Willie Gary in “The Burial” which is now streaming on Prime Video.

The attorney, who won a $500 million case in 1995, makes a cameo in the movie and some of his ex-clients are speaking out about him cheating them out of money. They also accuse Gary of sexual misconduct, Insider reports.

Directed by Maggie Betts, the film centers on funeral homeowner Jeremiah O’Keefe (Tommy Lee Jones), who enlists charismatic, smooth-talking attorney Willie E. Gary (Foxx) to save his family business. Tempers flare and laughter ensue as the unlikely pair bond while exposing corporate corruption and racial injustice in this inspirational, triumphant story.

Three of Gary’s ex-clients told Insider they were outraged that Gary is portrayed in “The Burial” as an icon of “family, fairness, and basic decency,” one film critic wrote, per Insider.

One of the complaints against him involves dozens of Gary’s female clients who allege that he secretly paid himself more money than he did for his clients.

Insider writes, “Of the $16 million paid to settle the case, Gary and his firm helped themselves to over $9 million, according to court documents.”

In a separate case, a woman named Sharron Mangum said Gary sexually assaulted her inside a stretch limo in New York in April 2002.

“Mr. Gary proceeded to roll up the dark, divider glass window inside the limousine, restricting any visual and audio contact of the driver,” she wrote in a 2017 letter to the FBI, according to Insider. “Mr. Gary then attacked me — grabbing my breast, grabbing between my legs, forcibly placing my hand on his penis, and trying to force his tongue into my mouth.”

The woman claims Gary stopped touching her when she threatened to jump out of the car.

Per Insider, one of Gary’s secretaries, Jillian Nedd, accused him of rape in 2007. Gary sued her for extortion after the police dropped their criminal investigation. She responded with a lawsuit of her own, claiming “sexual battery and rape.” Nedd’s lawsuit was settled in 2010, according to Insider.

Gary recently came under fire from a Georgia woman who claimed he stole money from her mother’s car accident settlement.

“I want to vomit when I open my email and I see all the advertisements with Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones,” said Luisa Esposito, who claims Gary mishandled a case against a man who groped her, per Insider. “Maybe there’ll be a part two, where all the evidence comes out about how he stole millions.”

Gary has denied all the allegations detailed in Insider’s report.
