*Actor Sean Penn said he wanted to melt down his Oscars after seeing Will Smith slap Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards so they could be used as bullets in Ukraine.

In a new interview with Variety, Penn reiterated previous comments he made about his furor over the Academy’s decision not to let Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy speak at the ceremony last year.

“The Oscars producer thought, ‘Oh, he’s not light-hearted enough.’ Well, guess what you got instead? Will Smith!” Penn said. “I don’t know Will Smith. I met him once. He seemed very nice when I met him. He was so fucking good in King Richard. So why the fuck did you just spit on yourself and everybody else with this stupid fucking thing? Why did I go to fucking jail for what you just did? And you’re still sitting there? Why are you guys standing and applauding his worst moment as a person?”

Penn believes that if the Academy had allowed Zelenskyy to speak, “Will Smith would never have left that chair to part of stupid violence.” 

When the Academy refused to allow the Ukrainian President to address the audience, Penn realized he wanted to destroy his Oscars.

“I thought, well, fuck, you know? I’ll give them to Ukraine,” he said. “They can be melted down to bullets they can shoot at the Russians.”

As Complex reports, in 1987, Penn spent 33 days behind bars after he punched a man. During his marriage to music icon Madonna, he allegedly struck multiple times, which the singer denied years after their marriage. 

Meanwhile, we reported previously that Smith has “tried unsuccessfully” to make amends with Chris Rock after slapping him at the 94th Academy Awards. 

A source told PEOPLE that Smith has “felt terrible for so long” about the incident. “He’s tried unsuccessfully to make amends in the best way he could with Chris.”

In an interview with Variety Sean Penn says that Trump can win the White House again if voters are ‘too cynical’.

He states: “it would be awful, embarrassing, dangerous, numbing, stupefying, unloving of our children to elect Donald Trump president.”

The tea spiller claims Smith “leaned” on his family in the aftermath of the assault, saying their support “has helped him look inside and mature. He is better but still remorseful.”

“Will listened to those who tried to help him and feels that he has become a better person,” the source added.
