Blumhouse Drops Second Trailer for ‘The Exorcist: Believer’ | Watch

*Universal and Blumhouse have released a second trailer for “The Exorcist: Believer” — a brand new chapter in the horror franchise.

This time the tale centers on two demonic children, Yahoo reports. Per the official synopsis: “Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom, Jr.) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett) on his own. But when Angela and her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.”

“The concept of this movie is two young girls disappear after school one day. When they return, they are in a different mental state and exhibiting some peculiar attributes,” co-writer/director David Gordon Green explained to Entertainment Weekly. “We come to learn that they are in a synchronized possession.”

Green wanted to explore “root work” voodooism in the “Exorcist” reboot. He refers to it as a “traditional healing process that began in West African culture.”

Part of Green’s creative process was reading about different religious interpretations of possession.

“My mind was blown and I started making phone calls and started talking to the quote, unquote experts because it’s a very unique subject matter and people have experienced things or claimed to have experienced things,” Green said. “And I just wanted to invite all these voices and stories and theories into my creative whirlpool.”

For the first time since the 1973 film, Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn reprises her iconic role as Chris MacNeil, an actress who has been forever altered by what happened to her daughter Regan five decades before. For Green, working with the legendary actress was a “true honor.”

“Just to be able to have this person that’s still with us creating things, and I get to invite her into a collaboration and utilize her voice and inspiration is amazing,” Green said. “And then now she’s my friend, so I can just be a goofball on funny texts to her and send her stupid memes is really cool.”

Green continued: “I feel like for me and Ellen, who didn’t know each other prior to this experience, but we get in the ring and I don’t know what I’m about to deal with. This could just be a fan service type of role that we’re going to buy into, or this could be a real collaboration with a very special spiritual essence on this Earth, and that’s what it became. [I was] getting her navigation, not just on what her character could do but how this process works, how this production could be special.”

“The Exorcist: Believer” hits theaters on Oct. 13. Watch the new trailer above.
