*Nail-biting, and yes, neck-biting blood lust, “The Last Voyage of the Demeter,” is a must-see. No corners were cut on this fantastically filmed and well-played-out chapter of Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula. There are chills at every turn. Although there is one scene that is never acceptable in a film. Also, the gore could’ve been at a minimum. But that’s par for the course these days.

Fine and versatile actor Corey Hawkins (“The Tragedy of Macbeth,” “Straight Outta Compton”) stars as Clemens, a doctor who joins the Demeter crew; Aisling Franciosi (“Game of Thrones,” “The Nightingale”) as Anna, an unwitting stowaway; Liam Cunningham (“Game of Thrones,” “Clash of the Titans”) as Captain Eliot; and David Dastmalchian (“Dune,” “Oppenheimer”) as the Demeter’s first mate, Wojchek. Clemens tells them in no uncertain terms that he is taking no crap from anyone. He explained having graduated from one of England’s most prestigious Universities, with proficient skills he could not get a job because of racism.

“The Last Voyage of the Demeter,” directed by André Øvredal, tells the terrifying story of the merchant ship Demeter. Strange events befall the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage to London stalked each night by a merciless presence onboard the ship. Talk about nowhere to run and nowhere to hide, this is the worst-case scenario. “Demeter” is in theaters now.

‘Operation Napoleon’

In this edge-of-your-seat thriller, Icelandic lawyer Kristin (Vivian Ólafsdóttir) gets drawn into the vortex of an international conspiracy after receiving footage of an airplane wreck.  It became visible after the melting of one of Iceland’s largest glaciers. Her brother (Ati Oskar Fjalarsson), who sent the video of the old downed German World War II plane, disappeared after sending it. The wreck not only brings ruthless criminals onto the scene but CIA director William Carr (Iain Glen). He has been secretly trying to remove the WWII find for a long time.

Although assassins have been trying to kill Kristin, she refuses to rest until she uncovers the riddle of Operation Napoleon. It was said the finding could change the course of the world. One of the conspiracies circulating is that there might be an alien artifact aboard. Kickass Julie Ratoff (Adesuma Oni) may have the answer to what is really on the plane. Don’t sleep on Simon (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) and badass Annette Badland, two incredible additions to the story.  “Operation Napoleon,” directed by Óskar Thór Axelsson, is in theaters and on VOD now.

‘Gran Turismo’

Gran Turismo,” is a gamer’s dream. Based on the true story of a team of underdogs—a struggling, working-class gamer; a failed former race car driver, and an idealistic motorsport executive. The first hour drags and the adrenalin doesn’t kick in until the last half of the movie. However, it’s still too long.

Directed by Neill Blomkamp, “Gran Turismo” stars Archie Madekwe (Jann Mardenborough), David Harbour (Jack Salter), Djimon Hounsou (Steve Mardenborough), and Orlando Bloom (Danny Moore). Ironically, Bloom and “Demeter” star Corey Hawkins appeared on Broadway together in “Romeo and Juliet.” Bloom was Romeo and Phylicia Rashad’s daughter Condola Rashad was Juliet. “Gran Turismo” is in theaters now.

‘Jules’

Cat lovers beware of “Jules,” from the warped minds of cat-hating filmmakers who think feline pets should be used as fuel for an alien spacecraft. That’s just the beginning. Why didn’t government agents seeking to find an extraterrestrial see Jules’ spacecraft in Milton’s (Ben Kingsley) backyard?

“Jules,” directed by Marc Turtletaub, follows Milton, who lives a quiet life in a small town. He finds his day upended when a UFO and its extra-terrestrial passenger crash lands in his backyard. Things become complicated when two neighbors (Harriet Sansom Harris, Jane Curtin) discover Jules, and the government quickly closes in. “Jules” is in theaters now.
