Viola Davis Pauses Production on ‘G20’ Amid Actors, Writers Strike

Viola Davis

*Oscar-winning actor Viola Davis is pumping the brakes on working on her upcoming movie, “G20,” amid the actors’ and writers’ strike.

The project was given a waiver by the guild to move forward, but the actress appears to be making a bold statement in support of the thousands of other actors on the picket lines.

“I love this movie, but I do not feel that it would be appropriate for this production to move forward during the strike, Davis told Deadline Saturday.

“I appreciate that the producers on the project agree with this decision. JuVee Productions and I stand in solidarity with actors, SAG/AFTRA and the WGA,” she added.

As TMZ reports, several big stars are also attached to independent films that received SAG waivers, including “Anne Hathaway, Jenna Ortega, Paul Rudd, Matthew McConaughey, Mark Wahlberg, Sigourney Weaver, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Kingsley, Dave Bautista, Ice Cube, Dakota Fanning, John Malkovich, Sean Bean, Rebel Wilson … to name a few,” the outlet writes.

Meanwhile, Sarah Silverman is speaking out against SAG-AFTRA waivers.

“What the f*ck? I got offered an indie movie, I f*cking said no, and so did a bunch of my friends. And now some of my friends are saying yes,” she said in a video on her Instagram (see above). “I’m really pissed.”

“There are like 40 movies being made right now. Movie stars are making movies because they’re independent movies, and SAG is allowing it because if they do sell it to streaming, it has to be because streaming is abiding by all the things we’re asking for.

“That’s just working,” Silverman said, New York Post reports.

“The strike ends when they come to the table and we make a deal in agreement,” she added.

“So, you’re just letting people make movies, and movie stars are making movies that you know the goal is to sell them to streaming,” she continued.

“Please, explain to me why I shouldn’t be angry, because people are making real-deal sacrifices. People, writers, actors, crew people, all these people are sacrificing their livelihood for this cause. It’s called union strong, where we are all together,” Silverman said.
