Free WiFi To 1000 Villages In India

India is planning to provide free Wifi to more than 1,000 villages. 900 million people in rural India lack internet access. Global technology firms are trying to get more of them online. The plan is to provide free WiFi to the Indian villages.

Each village will receive its own WiFi tower and villagers will be able to connect to the internet using their mobile phones. Internet will be provided by fibre optic cables. The first phase of the program will cost around $62 million. Digitisation is becoming more important in India. Google has already provided free internet at more than 100 railway stations in India.
