Scientists have brought the hands of their metaphorical Clock 30 seconds Closer to midnight. They're warning of increasing global peril due to the threats of nuclear weapons and unchecked climate change.

David Titley Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists said, "The current political situation in the United States is of particular concern. The trump Administration needs to state clearly and unequivocally, that it accepts climate change caused by human activity as reality. No problem can be solved unless its existence is first recognized. There are no alternative facts here."

The clock's setting has not been this close to midnight since 1953 when the Soviet Union set off a hydrogen bomb and triggered the nuclear arms race.
