75 Days Of Dussehra - Bastar Dussehra

A Dussehra celebrations that lasts 75 days! A one of a kind festival in Chhattisgarh called Bastar Dussehra, which is also a cultural fest where five local tribes come together.  And their Dussehra is neither about Ram nor is it about Ravan. Being celebrated for centuries, it has it's own history.

13th century - King of Bastar travelled to Jagannath Puri in Orissa to pay obeisance. The priest had a dream and was ordered by lord Jagannath to make king, the Rathpati. The king travelled back to Bastar and devoted the rath to goddess Danteshwari. Ever since, the Bastar Dussehra is celebrated with a grand Rath Yatra.

The rath (chariot) weighs 20,000 kgs and can carry up to 4,000 kgs. It takes around 2,000 people to pull the chariot. With a footfall of over 5 lakh people and a limitless festive spirit. Bastar Dussehra is a party that never stops!
