First roving remote controlled robot to land on another world
1970 - The Soviet Union successfully landed a remote-controlled roving robot on the moon, making it the first roving robot from Earth to land on another astronomical object. The robot was the Lunokhod 1, designed by Alexander Kemurdzhian & weighed just under 2,000 pounds. The goal was for Lunokhod 1 to operate for three lunar days or three Earth months, but it was in action for 11 lunar days.
