Love & Hate Relationship…

For runners, some of us see the activity as a love/hate relationship. I know I sure did when I was first starting. I would wake up in the morning and know that the mileage I would get would be anywhere from three to six miles. I used to hate Running because it was my biggest weakness.

As time went on, I noticed my knees were aching, my back was killing me and I just didn’t want to run anymore. It took me a while to Realize that I was a bit overweight to run. So I started to get a little more motivated to push myself and I began to take matters into my own hands.

I was going to the gym on my own, I was eating healthier, and on my runs I went by my pace and ran the distance I could handle. Another bonus was no silence, just my music and I!

After the runs, I would feel a little better about myself even on the runs I didn’t do so well on. I just stretched often and I would go back to the gym and work on whatever muscle group I needed to work on. Working on legs is one important factor to realize, your legs need strength training in order to perform better on your runs.

As of recent, I switched my running up by doing more sprints, and every now and again, I’ll tackle a two or three-miler. I haven’t run a six-miler in quite some time, but I will soon once I get bored with sprints and fast-paced two-milers.

As far as I am concerned, running can be something that we can all grow to love, we just can’t run the same way every time. Switch it up and you’ll see what I am talking about!
