James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy may have come to an end, but all of the characters may not have said their final goodbyes just yet. Following the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Chris Pratt said that he would be open to returning as Peter Quill if the opportunity built upon the foundation that Gunn built with the first three films.

“It would be strange to continue [Star Lord’s] story without James,” Pratt said about pursuing a film in which he would play the role of Peter Quill again.

“I don’t want to be cynical in the approach and if that’s the case, I just wouldn’t do it at all. So maybe down the road if something makes sense I would do it but it would really have to check a lot of the right boxes.”

At the end of the third Guardians of the Galaxy film, the original crew appears to have disbanded. Gamora finds a new home with the ravagers, Drax and Nebula take on new leadership roles at home, Mantis finds her own way and Quill returns to visit his grandfather. Behind the scenes, there is also a major shakeup. James Gunn, who stewarded the trilogy, has moved from Marvel to DC. Upon his exit, Pratt provided extremely glowing remarks.

“He’s done such a masterful job in the first three films,” he said.

“We really found the voice of Peter Quill together and without him, obviously, I would never have had this opportunity. He writes it, he directs it, he dreams up the music, it’s his imagination on screen.”
