Boots Riley is taking his latest creative vision to Prime Video. Earlier today, the streaming platform set a release date of June 23, 2023 for the Jharrel Jerome-led series.
“I’m A Virgo is a darkly comedic fantastical coming-of-age joyride about Cootie (Jerome), a 13-foot-tall young Black man in Oakland, California,” the show’s logline reads.
“Having grown up hidden away, passing time on a diet of comic books and TV shows, he escapes to experience the beauty and contradictions of the real world. He forms friendships, finds love, navigates awkward situations, and encounters his idol, the real-life superhero named The Hero, played by Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight, The Righteous Gemstones). I’m A Virgo is a mythical odyssey that questions the purpose of the mythical odyssey.”
In addition to setting up a release date for the Boots Riley series, Prime Video has also shared a sneak peek at the upcoming series. The exclusive clip highlights Jerome’s first time outside of his home as a 13-foot Black man in the Bay Area. Along the way, he runs into Felix, played by Brett Gray, but things don’t go according to plan. Check out the hilarious clip before Riley, Jerome, Gray and the talented cast bring a story unlike any other to a viewing device of your choice next month.
