Standing in solidarity with the Writers Guild of America, Drew Barrymore has decided not to host the Mtv Movie and TV Awards. Instead, she has agreed to host the award show in 2024 when the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike will have presumably concluded.

“I have listened to the writers, and in order to truly respect them, I will pivot from hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards live in solidarity with the strike. Everything we celebrate and honor about movies and television is born out of their creation,” Barrymore stated.

“And until a solution is reached, I am choosing to wait but I’ll be watching from home and hope you will join me. I thank MTV, who has truly been some of the best partners I have ever worked with. And I can’t wait to be a part of this next year, when I can truly celebrate everything that MTV has created, which is a show that allows fans to choose who the awards go to and is truly inclusive.?”

Despite her decision not to attend or host the award show, Barrymore will likely be featured in the ceremony. Prior to her decision to delay her hosting duties one year, she filmed a few sketches that are still expected to air. Similarly, a few other stars are expected to pull out of the award show in solidarity with the Writers Guild of America. Also, the pre-award show red carpet will not take place as previously scheduled due to the strike.

The MTV Movie & TV Awards will air on MTV on May 7, 2023 at 8 p.m. EST.
