Baseball remains one of the oldest and most enjoyable sports in North America. Major League Baseball (MLB) is the sport’s premier competition. The game is incredibly easy to understand, follow, and appreciate, especially when you watch professionals give their best.
The stars who give their best not only entertain us but also build decent careers and win trophies and accolades for their respective teams. These stars call MLB their home for very good reasons.

All sports have their greatest of all time (so-called the “GOAT”). In the history of MLB, many players have earned this crown, including the best outfielders of all time. They showed extraordinary skills including defense, hitting, a high count of runs, and batting.
Some of these outfielders have made names for themselves, and supporters have idolized them. They even go ahead and place bets on who might win the game or who could lift the coveted World Series trophy. It’s nothing but pure loyalty and fun.

Babe Ruth

Ruth is considered one of the greatest baseball players of all time, and he is undoubtedly the best outfielder ever. He earned the name “Sultan of Swat” because of his hard-hitting skills that other players dreaded.

The left-handed pitcher began his career with the Red Sox and became one of the game’s heroes. Later, he became a power-hitting outfielder for the famous and successful New York Yankees. He played for 22 seasons, earning a run average of 2.28 and batting in a whopping 2,214 runs. Ruth set numerous records throughout his career.

Willie Mays Jr.

Willie Mays Willie Howard Mays Jr., aged 91 years, nicknamed “the Say Hey Kid” and “Buck”, is a retired center fielder in MLB. He ranks second only to Babe Ruth in terms of skills, achievements, and other baseball-specific successes.

Mays played for 22 seasons and was known for his incredible defensive skills. He won 12 Gold Gloves during his career and is widely regarded as one of the best center fielders of all time. Mays was also an excellent hitter, finishing his career with a .302 Batting Average and 660 home runs.

Ted Williams

Theodore Samuel Williams was another household name because of his godly skills as a power-hitting outfielder. He played his entire 19-year MLB career, primarily as a left fielder for the equally successful Boston Red Sox from 1939 to 1960.

Williams is widely regarded as one of the best hitters of all time. He won two American League MVP awards and finished his career with a .344 batting average and 521 home runs. Williams was also an excellent outfielder, winning six Gold Gloves during his career.

Hank Aaron

Henry Louis Aaron, nicknamed “Hammer” or “Hammerin’ Hank” by his loyalists, was a right fielder who stamped his authority in the MLB memory books. He was the first player in the history of MLB to surpass 500 home runs and 3000 hits.

Aaron played for 23 seasons and is best known for breaking Babe Ruth’s all-time home run record. He finished his career with 755 home runs and a .305 batting average. Aaron was also an excellent outfielder, winning three Gold Gloves during his career.

Roberto Clemente

Born on August 18, 1934, in Carolina, Puerto Rico, Clemente showed incredible success in athletics as a youngster. At the age of 17, he was playing for the Santurce Crabbers of the Puerto Rican Baseball League. A year later, the Dodgers signed him, and by 1954, he was playing for their Triple-A team in Montreal.

Clemente played for 18 seasons and was known for his incredible arm in right field. He won 12 Gold Gloves during his career and was a 15-time All-Star. Clemente finished his career with a .317 batting average and 3,000 hits.

Ty Cobb

Tyrus Raymond Cobb, nicknamed “The Georgia Peach”, was another celebrated baseball player fondly remembered by MLB fans. He was a center fielder credited with setting up to 90 records during his highly successful career, including runs batted in, runs scored, career batting average, as well as most bases stolen by any MLB player.
Cobb played for 24 seasons and is widely regarded as one of the best hitters of all time. He finished his career with a .366 batting average, the highest of all time. Cobb was also an excellent outfielder, winning 11 Gold Gloves during his career.

Stan Musial

Stanley Frank Musial was another decorated American baseball outfielder and first baseman. He is widely considered one of the greatest and most consistent hitters in the history of Major League Baseball.

Musial and the Cardinals won the World Series in 1941 and again in 1944. After taking 1945 off to serve in the Navy, the legend won his second MVP in 1946 while leading St. Louis to its third World Series title in 5 seasons. He had his greatest offensive season in 1948, hitting a career-high.

He finished his career with a .331 batting average and 3,630 hits. Musial was also an excellent outfielder, winning seven Gold Gloves during his career.

Joe DiMaggio

Joseph Paul DiMaggio, fondly nicknamed by his fans “Joltin’ Joe,” the “Yankee Clipper” and “Joe D,” was a highly successful American baseball center fielder. He played his entire 13-year career in MLB for the Yankees.

DiMaggio is best known for his incredible hitting streak, during which he hit in 56 consecutive games. He finished his career with a .325 batting average and 361 home runs. DiMaggio was also an excellent outfielder, winning nine Gold Gloves during his career.

Ken Griffey Jr.

George Kenneth Griffey Jr. is another American baseball player who has made a name for himself in the sport. His success earned him the nicknames “Junior” and “the Kid”. He spent most of his career with the Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, and later with the Chicago White Sox.

Griffey played for 22 seasons and was known for his incredible power and athleticism. He finished his career with 630 home runs and a .284 batting average. Griffey was also an excellent outfielder, winning 10 Gold Gloves during his career.

Mickey Mantle

Nicknamed “the Commerce Comet” and “the Mick,” Mickey Charles Mantle was an iconic American baseball player with immense talent. Mantle’s drive, ambition, and love for the game catapulted him past his injuries and right into the MLB record books.
He played for 18 seasons and was known for his incredible power and speed. Mantle finished his career with 536 home runs and a .298 batting average. He was also an excellent outfielder, winning one Gold Glove during his career.

No one can deny that the names on our list are among the best in MLB records. Each of them made a mark in their career with immense talent that surpassed every other player at their time. As true baseball fans, we recognize them as the all-time greatest outfielders to ever grace our favorite sport.
