Cameron Brate to be Released by Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers plan to release tight end Cameron Brate over the coming days in a cap-saving move. Brate carries a cap hit of $5 million this year and may not be the last cap casualty this offseason for Tampa Bay. The team already released running back Leonard Fournette this off-season. With quarterback Tom Brady retired and the team $55 million over the cap changes will need to be made. It seems likely that the team will be entering a rebuilding era this off-season. More cuts and trades on the roster could be showing up soon.

In his nine-year career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cameron Brate caught 273 passes for 2,857 yards and 33 touchdowns on 422 targets. He has spent his entire NFL career with the team and is now a free agent. Brate has been a reliable backup tight end and could draw some interest as a free agent in the off-season. It is unclear how far Tampa Bay plans to go in its rebuild, but more moves will need to be made to get under the cap. While the team did win a Super Bowl with Tom Brady, it seems the bill for that win has come due.
