South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback Spencer Rattler has announced that he will return to the program for the 2023 college football season. There was speculation that he would declare for the 2023 NFL Draft, but instead, he will return to play for South Carolina. Last offseason he transferred from the Oklahoma Sooners to the South Carolina Gamecocks. Rattler was benched his last year with the Sooners for quarterback Caleb Williams. The embattled quarterback found new success with the Gamecocks and was a top SEC quarterback with the program. This makes South Carolina a team to watch heading into the 2023 college football season.

This past season with the South Carolina Gamecocks, Spencer Rattler completed 264 passes for 3,026 yards,18 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions on 399 attempts. He also rushed the ball 73 times for 46 yards and three rushing touchdowns on the season. The Gamecocks’ final game of the season was a 45-38 loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. Rattler will capitalize on NIL opportunities with his return and focus on improving his draft stock for the 2024 NFL Draft. While the Gamecocks are not favorites to win the SEC East next season they could make some noise and compete for a spot behind the Georgia Bulldogs. A bowl game and win are also likely with his return next season.
