Eddie Hearn Confirms There Is No Rematch Clause For Alvarez-Golovkin III

Only a few hours stand between Fight fans and one of the biggest super middleweight bouts in recent memory. For the third time, Canelo Alvarez will share the ring with Gennadiy Golovkin. Regardless of how the third fight plays out, it appears that there are no concrete plans for a fourth fight.

“No. This is it, this is the trilogy. Listen, if Gennadiy wins, number four becomes massive. But from Gennadiy’s point of view he’s coming with everything he’s has for this fight,” Hearn told reporters earlier this week, per Bad Left Hook.

“And I just said to Canelo ‘you look ready,’ and he said ‘much more than ready.’ I think he really wants to prove a point in this fight, not just because of the rivalry but bouncing back from the Bivol defeat. Gennadiy looks great and I think this will really suit him at 168.”

After two highly competitive fights that ended in controversial fashions, Golovkin and Alvarez will meet down in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 17, 2022. Since their last fight in 2018, Alvarez has gone on to unify all the belts in the 168-pound division and win a portion of the light heavyweight championship. However, he suffered his first loss in nine years just a few months ago. Meanwhile, Golovkin has only fought four times in the last four years against lackluster opposition. As a result, Alvarez enters the third bout as a heavy favorite. Still, Golovkin remains a dangerous opponent and has a few believing that he can win.

“I already said this before. I would think that Canelo would beat him in the past for the third time, but with the way I see things, the way they are, I would give the edge to Golovkin for one reason,” Ryan Garcia said, per DAZN.

“Both of those fights were good fights. It’s not like Golovkin was ever out of the fight, but two, Canelo is coming off a loss [to Dmitry Bivol] and looks very angry. He looks out of focus, and it’s not really his character from the past.”
