Ohara Davies Sets Matchup With Lewis Ritson, Eyes WBA Title Shot

Five years after his lone stoppage loss against Josh Taylor, Ohara Davies is looking to get a crack at the WBA Super Lightweight Championship. The next step on his journey toward a world title will take place on June 18, 2022 at the Leeds United FC Banqueting Suite. The 30-year-old contender is looking to sort out his dispute with Lewis Ritson over 10 rounds. Given that both men are relatively the same age with the exact same record, it could be a “loser leaves town” type of battle. Despite the stakes, Davies is confident that he’ll come out on top.

“I will take on anyone after this fight in Leeds, but Lewis Ritson is someone who stands out because that guy has been talking a whole lot of trash,” Davies said, according to Boxing Scene.

“If we fought, I don’t see him lasting more than three or four rounds. And so, for my next fight, I don’t mind going up to Newcastle, knocking out Ritson because it would be money for easy work.”

After his bout, Davies has his sights set on a 140-pound title shot. Josh Taylor currently holds three of the division’s four belts, but the WBA title remains vacant for the time being.

“Apart from Josh Taylor, I feel as though I have beaten everyone put in front of me. I’ve beaten Tyrone McKenna; I’ve beaten the unbeaten Logan Yoon when everyone said I was going to get beat. I was meant to fight Ismael Barroso last year, but he was scared and pulled out,” he argued.

“Regis Prograis’ last fight was against someone I beat two years ago. Sandor Martin is OK, but I am ranked above all of those guys so I should get that shot!”
