Jim Larranaga and Miami Hurricanes Agree to Contract Extension

Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Jim Larranaga ( Jim Dedmon – USA TODAY Sports )

The Miami Hurricanes have agreed to a contract extension with Head Coach Jim Larranaga through the 2025-26 season. This two-year extension might be the final one the 72-year-old Head Coach receives before he decides to retire from coaching basketball. Miami has seen up and down years in the ACC under their Head Coach, but they have fielded more good teams than bad teams. He is no doubt a legend in college basketball and will be able to coach until he does decide to retire.

Jim Larranaga at Miami has led the program to an overall record of 222-139 and an ACC record of 105-96. His overall record as a Head Coach in college basketball is an impressive 692-473. With the Miami Hurricanes, he has made the NCAA Tournament four times and this season is expected to make it five times. 2013 saw him and the Miami Hurricanes win the ACC regular season, the ACC Tournament, and Larranaga himself won the Naismith and AP College Coach of the Year Awards.

The Miami Hurricanes are hoping to keep their talented Head Coach for a few more years and then look to what the future may hold. For now, the focus will be on the 2022 ACC Tournament and the 2022 NCAA Tournament. Jim Larranaga and the Miami Hurricanes have one thing on their minds and it is centered around winning as many March Madness games as they possibly can.
