The team at MSNBC will get just a bit bigger this winter with the addition of Matthew Dowd. Deadline reports that Dowd will serve as a political analyst for the network as the network covers threats to U.S. democracy.

Prior to joining MSNBC, Dowd worked as a political analyst for ABC News from 2007 through 2021. He left the network last year to pursue the lieutenant governor position in Texas. After coming up short in his political ambitions, Dowd will return to television.

As election season nears, Dowd will go state to state and report on the state of democracy in the U.S. He made his debut on Wednesday during Nicolle Wallace’s Deadline White House.

Dowd is not the only addition to the MSNBC team lately. Not long ago, Symone Sanders signed on to lead weekend shows on NBC’s streaming site, Peacock. Prior to taking on her new gig, Sanders also pursued political goals of her own. She led a presidential campaign for Bernie Sanders back in 2016 and served as the chief spokesperson for Vice President Kamala Harris last year.
