The Toronto Blue Jays have had a busy day as they have agreed to a six-year, $150 million contract with star outfielder George Springer. The Blue Jays agreed to a one-year deal with closer Kirby Yates earlier on Tuesday, but the Springer news outweighs this one by miles. The deal is pending a physical, but the two sides have reached an agreement.

The stud outfielder has spent the entirety of his career with the Houston Astros but has moved on and will now head north across the border. In 2020, Springer played in 51 games for the Astros, where he hit .265/.359/.540 with 14 home runs and 32 RBI on the year.

He has three all-star years under his belt; he is also a two-time Silver Slugger winner. The Blue Jays wanted a big-time player this offseason, and Springer fits that role. Springer joins a thriving team of young talents like rising star Vladimir Guerrero Jr., rising star Cavan Biggio, and rising star Bo Bichette.

The Blue Jays signing Springer takes another one of this offseason’s biggest names off the board. It has been a slow offseason as it is, but the signing of Springer is one of the few big names this class features.
