Netflix has secured the rights to upcoming film, Concrete Cowboys, starring Idris Elba, Jharrel Jerome and Caleb McLaughlin.

Concrete Cowboys tells the story of a 15-year-old boy named Cole who is sent to live with estranged father, Harp, in Philadelphia. While living with his father, Cole discovers Fletcher Street Stables and becomes a member of the city’s urban horseback riding community. Along the way, Cole must battle violence, gentrification and much more in this coming-of-age story.

Alongside Elba, Jerome and McLaughlin, Method Man, Lorraine Toussaint and Byron Bowers star in the film. Lee Daniels also produced the film alongside Elba. Concrete Cowboys premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year and earned rave reviews.

“McLaughlin greatly expands his range from Stranger Things here, balancing punkish swagger with vulnerability, while Elba, with a salt-and-pepper beard and a cigarillo forever planted in the corner of his mouth, is entirely convincing as a tough-loving man still figuring out how he fits into the traditional family model,” David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter wrote.

Concrete Cowboys will arrive on Netflix in 2021.
