Ron Suno releases the official remix to his viral Song “Pinocchio” with assistance from West Coast rapper Blueface.

Since 2017, Ron Suno has existed on the viral side of the internet. His #WeaveChallenge may be his most prominent hashtag. However, the content creator has plenty to give in both Music and comedy.

As his social media following grew in numbers across all platforms, Ron began to take advantage of the new attention to launch his blossoming rap career. “Spider-man” became one of his first viral songs and features fellow New York rapper Fivio Foreign.

Despite starting out as a comedian, Ron Suno understands how to flip words. “Once you know your vocabulary, you know what can describe you. Any word that you can think of that describes how you feel will turn into your own lingo. You just got to have that sauce, you feel me,” says the rapper.

With over 8 million views on YouTube and another 15 million on Tik Tok, Ron sits on a potential explosion in mainstream music popularity.  In fact, the fan initiated #PinocchioChallenge lead to the eventual remix. Now with “Pinnochio” proving to be an undeniable hit, the rapper tags in Blueface for a modified version of the song.

Whether he’s in front of the camera recording a skit or in the booth, eating Sour Patch Watermelon and Kit-Kat’s for flavor inspiration, what he names his favorite snacks for inspiration, the Bronx rapper is always working. We caught up with Ron Suno ahead of the release to discuss the collaboration, creating comedy skits and more to come in 2020. Read the Q&A below:

The conversation has been lightly edited for editorial standards.

Def Pen: Did you expect fans to react so well to Pinnochio, as far as launching the #PinnochioChallenge?  How’s the contest going?

Ron Suno: When I made “Pinnochio” I didn’t think the song was actually going to hit off like it did now. I had a lot of songs out before Pinocchio, but since Pinocchio is genuine it was natural and I guess the real me.  The Pinocchio challenge started out with the dance that I created with the song. It moved from Instagram to TikTok. A lot of TikTok influencers picked up on the “Pinocchio dance” and we going crazy right now with the #PinocchioChallenge.”

With the #PinocchioChallenge there’s a cash prize. What have you noticed in while watching the videos?

The one thing I noticed is there’s a lot of kids who support my music. Every time I watch the kids that dance to my music and I look at how young they are, I’m so amazed at how they understand my music. The music I’m creating is like a domino effect on the youth and I love it. It’s a good feeling to know that you can make a difference in a kid’s life.

How was it working with Blueface? How did the collaboration come together?

I collaborated with Blueface through his manager Wack 100. Wack 100’s daughter actually likes my song “Pinocchio” and did the #PinocchioChallenge. I got in contact with Wack 100 and then we worked from there.  It’s a good experience because I’m from New York and Blueface is from Cali and it’s good to work nationally, east to west coast.  One thing I can say about Blueface is, he’s definitely in a new era. He and I relate because we like to have fun with our music.

Can you describe your creative process?

I try to make sure that the bars make sense to me. If I’m making a bar I want to make sure if I put two and two together, those two and two have a meaning behind them. When I’m writing I can rhyme, but everything has to have a two-and-two part. If I’m making catchphrases, it gotta have a meaning to it. I write hooks first because the hook is going to draw the attention to the crowd, then I’ll write my verse. I usually freestyle the hook, because the hook is easier to have fun with.

How do you balance the music and the comedy aspects of your talents?

First things first, you gotta always know yourself. Once you know yourself, you know that nobody can stop you from what you’re trying to achieve. People can’t tell you what you can and cannot be, you feel me. One thing you got to do, you got to give your fans your personality. Once you give me a personality, that’s one side of you and how you feel is another side of you. How I feel is my music and my personality is my entertainment.

So your EP is coming out soon, “Swag Like Mike.” Can you talk about it? What are some of your favorite tracks to come?

Oh yeah, definitely “Swag Like Mike” means the different types of Mike’s. You got Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson, Mike Tyson, and I’m all of them in one. I’m an entertainer, I make music, my characteristics match all Mikes. l got swag like Mike. The song that really is gonna go crazy on that tape is “Bang Em.” That’s the new lingo we’re going to go crazy with for the summertime. It’s 2020, we are going to start with the new lingo and have everybody follow the trend. BANG EM. I got a good eight songs on the tape, no more, no less. Giving the fans what they want. It’s going to drop before the summer.

Who are some artists that have inspired you musically?

When I write music I listen to myself, so I know my sound. If you know your sound, you can only perfect it. The more I keep listening to my songs it makes me grow and keep understanding what I need to develop. The main rappers were like Eminem, 50 Cent, Jadakiss, all the old school rappers I like them because back then when they were rapping, they had a story behind the music.

You’ve now worked with Blueface and Fivio, who else are you hoping to work within your career?

DDG, is a Youtuber, just like me. We started doing comedy, and definitely have stuff we are working on right now. I definitely want to work with DaBaby.

What can fans expect for the remainder of 2020?  How are you navigating the pandemic with creating, fan interaction?

RS: I’m gonna have a music video drop right after the “Pinocchio” remix. I won’t say which song it is, but it’s on the tape. After that, more entertainment, more skits. We are going to have more collabs on the comedy side. I’m going to start doing pranks. I’m gonna go crazy with music and YouTube. How do I connect with my fans? I just go live and talk to my fans, add them to the live and see how they’re doing quarantining.
