Isaiah Todd Decommits from Michigan, will play overseas

2020 Top 15 recruit Isaiah Todd (Jason Jordan/USA Today Sports)

The Michigan Wolverines received bad news with the announcement that 2020 top 15 recruit Isaiah Todd would be decommitting and will be spending the year playing basketball professionally overseas. This comes less than a day after the Wolverines lost out on 2020 top ten recruit Josh Christopher, who was a heavy Wolverines lean. Todd was rumored to be considering an early jump to the professional level and know he will make it official. He is planning to hire an agent and explore his options.

RJ Hampton and Lamelo Ball both went and player overseas last year and their draft stock may be helping more players decide to make the jump. Hampton is still projected to be a high pick while Ball could very well be the number one overall selection in the 2020 NBA Draft. Todd’s journey will likely be a little more difficult. He was not already a top-five recruit. He should still be a first-round pick next year though.

This is a blow to the Wolverines roster next year, but they should still be one of the better teams in the Big Ten. Their best recruit now is Hunter Dickinson who is a high four-star that’s ranked 32nd in the class. They also have two other four-star recruits coming into the program this year. The program would have liked to have two five-stars but will be prepared to play with the players that they will have next year. Todd will begin his overseas career after he decides what team he wants to sign with for a year.
